Default Thanks a lot STRaightJAGgin I just smashed my STR!

Talk about bad luck. Just reading about STRaightJAGgin damages and how hard it is to find parts.

Tonight I was coming home from work in my 2005 STR at 7:00 PM or so. Hit a deer at @45 mph. Hard to see in the dark all the damage but I drove home and nothing is leaking yet. Got the hood, drivers fender, drivers headlight and high beam, bumper cover from what I could see.

The HID light was ripped open but the capsule was still working! Bobbing up and down I guess from the auto leveling as I drove home. A nice big patch of hair is packed in between the bent fender and hood. Lost the leaper. Shaved clean off. The Mina lower grille I added looks OK.

Lived in deer country all my life and had many a close call but my number was up on this one. Happened so fast I never hit the brake or slowed down. No time to swerve!

So sorry clubairth. Def. understand how it all happens so suddenly. I wasn't going to mention this because the damge is minor, but....for the past month my STR has been at the repair garage waiting for a passenger side exhaust manifold swap. Last week the mechanic's wife called me at the office to inform me a small school bus tried to squeeze between my STR and another parked car. The bus laid a long scratch from the drivers side of rear bumper to the edge of the drivers side rear door. The bus' ins. is checking it out next week. Nuff about the past, let's put our bitch's back together....

Glad to hear you're okay. We live in deer country as well. I'm extra careful when out at night during rutting season regardless of which vehicle I'm driving. Deer all over the road, and accidents on a regular basis....

So glad you are OK, No Airbags deployed either, that is great....

That is one of my worst fears, I live near a field and a couple of times a year I see deer crossing the road, it is a 40MPH on that road with many doing 45~50mph....

Best of luck with the repairs...

@ Michael....should be over, you can count me as #3. I was rear ended at a stop light Friday night in my '06 STR. Just some minor paint & trim damage to the rear.

Leave the hair in place. Proof that it was an animal hit. These accidents fall under your comprehensive coverage as an act of nature. Most times the deductible is only $100 and you won't be surcharged for a collision accident .

Good luck to all with the repairs. I'm glad Laurie's is locked in the garage for the winter.

Has there actually been a need for S-Type hibernation in Pittsburgh this winter?

Sorry to hear about all your problems, the R's seem to be having a run of bad luck just now.

Yes it falls under comprehensive and NOT collision but my $1000 deductible still applies. The hair was still in place when I got the estimate done.

The car is in the shop and I have a 2011 Charger which is pretty nice and has a lot of standard stuff on it. Only a V-6 but not bad!

Here are few pictures. No fender gap issues so it was a pretty light hit. Hood is jammed so I can't inspect the engine compartment but still nothing leaking this morning.

Ouch indeed.

Still, at least it didn't bounce off the hood and hit the windshield! Wonder if it would've gone through.

I didn't think Texas had deer...just armadillos, scorpions, rattlers, fire ants, and such?

I'm sure they will replace that entire head light. Make sure you keep the old headlight or the autobody shop will end up selling it and keeping the money.

Stiil plenty of road salt. You would think it was free the way they spread it. But actually right now the rain has rinsed it away. But I heard snow in the forcast so it will soon be replaced with another coating. But you are right, it has been a really mild one so far.

I have a screw repaired drivers hid light for $400 shipped, or a fully non broken one for $500. which can drasticly reduce your deductable to the body shop compared to a $1200 new one. Let me know

Thanks Brutal! But a $1000 deductible is still $1000 out of my pocket before the insurance starts paying.

I bet it will be several thousand dollars.
Anyone want to guess the estimate to fix??

uh excuse my math. But if insurance gives the body shop $1200 for a new light and you supply 1 you paid $400 for then your deductable is now paid to the body and they owe you $200 back or effectively you come out of pocket $200
$1200 new light
-$1000 deductable
+$200 body shop credits to you
-$400 for a good used unit
-$200 is the amount youre now out of pocket instead of $1000
Now you just need to request that they quote new parts prices since "your baby" needs to best
And Ide say a $7000-8k repair
