Default Thermostat question

Replacing thermostat on 2002 S-Type V6. Bought a Stant replacement that did not come with a rubber seal/O-ring. Took old one off - old one has a rubber seal that is a tad too small for the new thermostat. Have a couple of basic questions.

Do the thermostats normally come with a replacement seal, should I reuse the existing one or get a new one?

Or am i not expected to use a seal for this specific thermostat for the 2002 V6? Confused here.

Thanks

I work in aftermarket spare parts, and most brand of stats do NOT come with the the seal. It is a seperate item, and the Stant brand is one of them.

If the old seal is undamaged, reuse it.

If in doubt, get a new one.

The stat MUST have that seal. Fitting without will have major overheating issues.

I am not aware that Stant made a stat for our cars, coz I have been looking at work, so a part number would be nice, PLEASE.

Thanks for the information - guess I'll double check the seal or maybe get a new one. Yes, also double checked on Stant website for OEM fitments looks like its the correct kind. Part numbers are 14138, 14139. I bought the 14138 looks like they sell the seal separately.
