Several ways to help distinguish whether or not it's a Sport...on a pre 04 anyway.

1. Color -matched or gunmetal 13 vertical bar grille (no chrome trim ring)
2. Color - matched (no chrome inserts) bumpers
3. Body colored rear plinth (trim piece directly above license plate
4. leather-trimmed steering wheel (no wood grain)
5. 17 inch 10-point "Sport" rims
6. C.A.T.S. (Computer Active Technology Suspension)
7. Perforated leather seats

Many of the items mentioned above are options on other models..but if you have most of them, it's a fairly good chance you have a Sport.

The easiest way to verify whether or not you have the C.A.T.S. system is to open your hood, pop off the strut tower cover, and see if there's a wire and connector coming out of it. You can also see a wire coming out of the back of the strut tower cap.

Sorry for wandering off topic...I personally like the look of 20's on the back and 19's up front...There, back on course!

See, me personally, I'm a "all go, no show" type of guy. Thats why I drive a S-Type R and my other car is a Buick Grand National. Therefore I'm more interested in 3 Piece or Monoblock forged rims that are wider instead of larger in diameter. HRE, Fikse, COR and other street/race applications are more interesting to me.
I'm not in it for the "bling" factor. Hell, if the fact your driving a Jaguar doesn't impress someone then a fancy grill and pretty rims won't either.

I'd really love to get a $4K dollar set of 18x10 rears and 18x9 fronts from HRE and wrap them in yoko rubbers. Add some 1" drop H&R springs and roll out... That way you would still have a stock ride but be able to destroy corners. I live 1.5 hours from Roebling Road and 2.5 hours from Road Atlanta and I assure you the jag will be on both.

just my 2 cents...

So venumb I assume yours isn't a sport? The rims and the chrome have me wondering...although I'm no pro on the s-type.

I agree with you mida I like go more than show but I must say I like both as well, the stock str rims do a good job but it's hard to find one with chrome factory wheels (i happen to like chrome.)

Either way nice rides you have there...I imagine the grand national is worth or will be worth the same as the str before long???

Huh??? I believe I clearly pointed out what makes a Sport a Sport? ...I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that Sport models don't have chrome trim above the doors and I covered the rims already but... lets put this baby to rest, shall we?

Like you, I'm no expert in S Types or anything else for that matter, but the folks that printed this brochure may know a thing or two about Jag S Types...Sport models too even! [8D]

Look closely...see the chrome above the windows?

Even threw in one of my window stickers for you..notice the word "Sport" on it.

Whitestype-The s button raises the shift point...thus allowing the engine to rev higher. I personally think the j gate is better than the S button. BTW the steering wheel doesn't have to have wood to be sport but usually a general indicator is no chrome on the outside of the car.

Venumb-they must have changed the sport model on the s-types than. I've never seen a sport model s-type with chrome above the doors or anywhere nor the wheels you have. Must have changed it in 03 or 04. So apparently the early model sports have chrome but the newer ones do not have chrome above the door.

2003 sport

no. strictly makes the engine rev at higher RPMs before switching gears.

How bad *** would it be if sport mode changed your shift pressure and advanced your timing a bit??
