Default Thinking of selling my 02 S-Type

I have an 02 S-Type with 68,000 miles. I went to a Toyota dealer and they said they would give me $2-3K for it - I felt insulted. I looked at KBB.com and the trade in is pretty low.

What is fair in the market? Any other resources I could look at?

Sorry, but that's about right. There is no demand for these S-Types nowadays....

Check ads on Craigslist. The asking prices for 02s with lower miles is slightly higher- in the $4,500 range.

If you've done all or most of the major maintenance, then someone will be getting a bargain. Might be "cheaper to keep her."

Many (at least in my area) who pick up these cars do so because the bodies and paint are mint, but will run them into the ground mechanically for a few years. They then wind up in specialty lots for luxury vehicle parts once the drivetrain fails for good.

Yup. Even the 2003+ cars are worthless, relatively speaking. I get a laugh when people think I'm rich cause I drive a Jag.

Dealers can't afford to lose money on a trade-in unless it's offset somewhere in the new car's price. It costs as much for them to process and sell an old beater as something shiny and new. Most times a car more than 5-7+ years old will be immediately flogged off to a wholesaler and will reappear on a bottom feeder lot that offers 'last chance credit' 'no offers refused'.

Sad but true.

There's a whole thread on those haters that are jealous of any Jaguar, and believe you are rich....even if you are of limited means...which are spent keeping said car on the road.

You are correct as to where you find these STs for sale. Rare occasion for a private sale....rest, with over 100k miles are found on those lots where they'll charge 29% interest. They also sell 17 year old Mercedes and BMW 3 series, and even long discontinued Cadillacs.

Remember, of all of those choices....you drive a Jaaaaaaaaaaagg!
