Time for SYSTEM!!!!
Hey guys..so I am now starting to plan out a system. I wanna do 2 12's in the trunk, and mount them on each side of the trunk. When u open the trunk, and look left and right you see the pockets and that's where I want to pu them. noww... the thing is. I still have the stock Premium sound system (2000) S-type and the stock headunit along with the stock 8's up in the back with the amp. SOOoo how would I go about connecting my new subs and an amp to the system?... I also was thinking about keeping my stock subs in there, or just changing them out to normal speakers. Soo.. My question is primarily how would I connect the 2 12's in the trunk to the system as well as the amp? would I just connect it to the wires that come out of the stock amp?
LMK!
Thanks,
Paul

Hey Paul, I wouldn't mate any type of sound system to the stock headunit. I'd go for an aftermarket headunit, and then a nice amp and subs. Talk to Quil, I saw some of the things he has for sale, and they are really nice at a great price. He'll get you a deal, hit him up.
If you want to use the stock system, you can and it will sound fine as long as you are putting an amp to the speakers. If the amp you have has high level inputs (speaker wire in-jacks), then just connect the speaker wires to the amp and hook up as normal. If the amp doesn't have the inputs and needs an RCA connection, then you need to get an adaptor that will do this for you. You can buy them online or at your local Radio-Shack (I'm not sure where you're from and if they have Radio Shack's there). Basically, you hook the speaker wires up to one end and the converter turns it into RCA plugs on the other end. Then hook up the RCAs to your amp and finish installing it as normal.
You can do subs for now and leave the stock speakers, or replace the stock speakers and use the factory head unit to power them. If you want the best sound though, I would personally replace all the speakers and put an amp on all of them. That way you aren't trying to power your new component speakers off the meager output of the stock headunit.
If you are really picky about it, obviously the best way to go is an aftermarket headunit because you have the option of having 4v pre-outs or better - which sends a much better signal than the stock unit with the high-level converter... but for the most part using the stock unit will sound fine if you put an amp on the speakers. I know the dilemma that you have, as I personally think that a standard 1/2 din deck looks goofy installed in such a large space. Depending on the deck you choose though, a large screen mounted there would look nice! Also, I would not leave the stock sub hooked up unless you use crossovers to make it more mid-range than lows... That may work, but realistically I wouldn't go through all the trouble for such a small sub that the factory provides. It would be more trouble than it's worth.

How do you replace the factory unit? Do you have any instructions on how to take the headunit out? Reply back asap. Thanks
