I just registered to this wonderful site! Great job guys! I wasn't expecting there to be so many techy geeks in the Jaguar world. So a question for you:

I'm looking at picking up a used S-Type R, so I'm looking at what the ownership is like, and what kind of aftermarket support this car has. Also, I've been reading up on what usually goes wrong with these cars. Transmissions are high on the list. If the 6 speed auto is the same as a BMW ZF tranny, has anyone ever tried swapping a BMW 6 speed MANUAL tranny when their Jaguar ZF went? My guess is that it's the same case, maybe different mounts, different gear ratios, and linkage. So with, say, a BMW manual tranny, driveshaft, and rear end; custom rear axels, linkage, and mount; you could probably get a tuner to map a closed loop in the tranny side of the ecu, so - why not?
