Question ZF6 Speed Transmission Message, STR

I am getting a message reading 'Transmission Fault' appearing on the dash where the odometer is, as well as a red vertical light appearing next to it on the left.

Dealers have run a diagnostic and they tell me that it is to do with the valvebody/overdrive solenoid that may be sticking. I find this odd as the car has only done 45,000KM! or(28,000Miles).

It only seems to appear at freeway speeds.
I have plenty of questions for the experts out there.

Is there a risk to keep driving the car?
Is this fault rare/common?
Certainly it would not be worth doing a full overhaul on such low mileage and I would hate to see the bill.
Is it worth/economical to repair this section of box only? Or should I just shop around for a used/exchange box?

I hear the fluid alone for the box is over $100 per litre! Times 8 or 9 litres!

Or should I just ignore it and it will magically go away!

Mine has been doing this for over a year but it goes away itself after a while. I find that switching to Sport mode for a while clears the message.
