Default Transmission broken

My transmission recently broke down. I can't drive forward right now, only rear. How much does it usually cost to replace or fix the transmission?

Zeidan, you need to give more details, what happened, were there any noises etc.

In the end it may not be something you can diagnose over the internet.

You have a very common Ford transmission. It has been put in millions of Fords. Any transmission repair shop should be able to help you.

The good thing is a completely rebuilt unit is under $2000 USD. Much cheaper than if you had the 6 speed ZF in the later cars.

Could be something as simple as this to fix:
Metal Shifter Cam - shift.kit.stype

I can tell you that first hand. Been over 2 weeks and mine's still being rebuilt. Mainly because the dealership doesn't get the parts in when they say the will an they sold us a faulty TCM.

I had a chrysler 300 get stuck in only reverse before. My issue only needed a new shift cable which had frayed and prevented me from shifting out of reverse.

Have trans rebuilt by certified tech. Be sure to replace solenoid pack .include shift improver kit, add new bands, frictions ect. I also put in a billet piston convertor which is completely silent. Make sure the shop that does this , or you , has a convertor alignment to flex plate tool or the convertor will rattle and eventually tear up the front pump. I looked locally and found a certified tech to do this as a bench build. I did the removal and reinstall. Parts with the upgraded billet convertor were at 1k. Not to bad considering it shifts awesome with no lag between reverse and drive anymore.

I did noticed a lag when shifting reverse ever since I've had the car. They replaced the TCM friday but towed it to the dealership for them to reprogram everything. It wasn't working, the new TCM was faulty so I have to wait another few days for a new one to come again.

I'm not sure of everything they did, but it was a bit more than just the rebuild kit. Replaced the torque converter as well.

Be careful here. You have a 2003 which is the much more expensive 6 speed ZF.

The original guy has the older 5 speed Ford transmission. A whole different ball game between the two!!

Note; No TCM in the Ford unit.
