Default Transmission Fluid (DEX III) for power steering fluid?

Need to top off power steering fluid, so I went to auto parts store to buy power steering fluid and the sales guy attempted to sell me Valvoline DEX/MERC Dexron III/MERCON automatic transmission fluid..

Can this be used in my 2005 S-Type V6 in place of 'power steering' fluid?

I read that thread before I posted my question.
In the thread, there does not seem to be a definitive yes or no answer and in fact the thread morphs to 'additives' being added to power steering reservoirs.

I did see just one response that states 'any fluid that meets DEX III are the same" but I did not see anyone agree.

Hmm, directly from https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...estion-125096/
Post #1 (Jazzwineman) Alldatadiy "Type Mobil ATF to Dexron 3 Specification"

Post #2 (Jon89) "I finished the task by topping up with Dexron III as specified in the owners manual."

Post #3 (salmanezkhanz) "I believe any fluid that meets the Dexron 3 standard should be fine. Personally, I went with Castrol."

Post #5 (Jon89 again) "Dexron III is Dexron III. It's been around for many years and is manufactured to tightly-controlled specs. Just stick to a name brand (Castrol, Valvoline, Shell, etc.) and you'll be fine...."

Post #9 (motorcarman) "The only S-Type that used a different PAS fluid (ESSO 998) was the 2000MY with the Ford steering rack.
The system also required the special bleeding procedure with VACUUM to remove the air.

Later X200 used the DEXRON fluid."

What do I know though............

People seldom need to state agreement to an assertion which is patently obvious
in their eyes.
