Default Transmission pan

Hi everyone
I purchased this 2004 4.2 s type 2 months ago
And with the help from a lot of people on this forum have just about got everything fixed so thank you

Hopefully this is the last item to be done
My transmission pan is leaking
When I purchased this car it had been sitting parked up for 18 months
It had a transmission flush and pan/filter done one week before being put in to storage

Is it possible to remove transmission pan and reseal it
As car has only done 500 km since transmission flush

Not a bad leak but enough to be a pain

As I am hoping to take car on a trip in a weeks time
Been to jaguar and they would need to order one in for me
Our local parts shops do Not have anything either
No matter what I do I have to import one

I have resealed transmission pans on my bmws
But are not sure on the jaguar as filters part of the pan I think
Thanks Darrol

You have a ZF 6HP-26 transmission, correct?
The filter is integral to the plastic sump pan. All one piece.
The seal is a rubber ring bonded into the plastic,on all the ones I have seen.
Is the filter a ZF original. Then may be slightly better quality.

Could be a number of things, the pan is incorrectly tightened, over tightened, distorted, Cracked. or the electrical connector sleeve o rings making you thing it is the pan.
Work you way through the above, and you will have a better answer, and solution.
If it is leaking ATF at all I would, cure the leak and refill the transmission to the correct level before going on any trip. Or you could be a long way from home with few gears, or no gears and may be a damage transmission.

That's one item in your favor. I've heard tales of woe about the heads stripping on the ZF pan bolts. If the pan had recently been off, the bolts are not likely to be seized.

You might consider checking the torque of the pan bolts. If too loose, that is an obvious problem. If too tight, that may have warped the pan. (Not sure if the gasket has spacers to prevent over-tightening) Don't just reef on the bolts but check them with a torque wrench.

If you have to replace the gasket (part of the pan?), please consider the logistics of refilling. Are you working in a shop with a lift? Or a driveway with a floor jack? The tricky part is raising the car level. Easy in a shop, not so much at home. There is not a lot of room around the approved jack points, especially in the back. Once a corner is lifted on a jack, there's barely any room next to it for a jackstand. It's a real pain to get the car safely high enough to work underneath, while getting it level for an accurate refill. So make sure your work environment is adequate before tearing things apart.

Pulling the pan is straight forward and just like any other. The thing that is a pain is getting the proper fill level. Check out the videos in post #3 --> https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...h-tips-215808/
