Default Trunk (Boot) Plinth Removal

So I have decided to replace my body colored plinth panel with the nice shiney chrome one. I dont want to go all chrome on my STR but I thought just a little bit more on the trunk with the chrome badges would look nice.

I purchased a new one off of fleabay for $50 from a wrecker. All tabs are in place everything is there and ready to go, just not sure about how you go about taking the old one off??

Anyone got a drawing or instructions they can share with me? I dont have JTIS loaded on my new PC yet so no way to look this up right now...

Thanks guys!

I might be a buyer for your body colored one if it all works out.

You got it! If I can manage to get the darned thing off, you got first dibs on the body colored one - its silver and in really good shape, or you can always paint it if you need a different color!

Cheers!

Default *update*

Plinth has been changed out! I love the look of the chrome one vs. the standard body colored standard one. Just give it a little extra flash. I am not a big chrome guy, but with the chrome license plate surround and the the Chrome decals I think its just right!

Sorry totalimmortal, I broke the mouting tabs taking the old one off... the bolts had obviously been leaking water into the trunk (think I have solved my water in the trunk issues too) for some time and were rusted so bad they just snapped when I tried to work them off... You can have the old panel for free if you want it let me know pay shipping and its yours!

Here is the new look!

Hi CBHarley-

I’m sorry to dig up such an old thread. I’m trying to remove my plinth to add a backup camera and am throughly frustrated. I, like you, have broken off one of the plastic “bolts” (legally, they shouldn’t be allowed to be called bolts) and I’ve stopped to rethink my approach here.

What tool did you use to get these nuts off? The socket small socket wrench as already given me this trouble.

Plus the bolt I snapped off landed somewhere in the cavity of the trunk that I can’t get to and now rattles if I bounce the trunk lid.

Any help or thoughts would be much appreciated.
