Default Which Tyre Size on 19" Rims?

Hi all.

I was wondering if you guys on the other side of the pond maybe able to help me out. As you lot do more mods to your jags than the uk forum.

I have just got hold of a nice set of 8.5J 19" alloy wheels from a 2005 XJ8, jag call them 'custom' they came with a good set of 255/40 tyres.

My S has 25mm lowered springs and the front tyre ruds the arches if i drive over a big bump.
Here's a picture of them on the car -

Anyone run 19"s on their S? If so what size tyres do you have?

Thanks.

They're about 1.5" too big now. The wheel rims may well also be the wrong offset.

So you need to check the offset and if OK tell your insurer about the non-standard mod plus go for smaller (probably lower profile) tyres.

Are they too wide as well...

(The STR has different details not applicable to your car(s).)

Yes by using a 'rim and tyre calculator' the over all diameter is 687mm and std 661mm, if I use 255/35 tyres then its the same over all diameter but will they still rub??? Or do I need 245/35 which is 6mm smaller?

Yes my insurer has my car 'listed with mods' due to the lpg.

If you end up with different diameter tires than stock, speedometer and odometer accuracy will be effected. If you choose different diameter tires front to rear, expect ABS and DSC errors.

Hi, yes I'm fully aware of the above thanks.

I was hoping for some guidance on next step.

Stick standard sizes into tyre calculator. Stick ones you MIGHT put on your rims in, trying new values till you get the same result.

I would not fit those rims unless I knew the offset was right (which it isn't for my car).

Hi, have done that but due to wheels being wider still don't know if they are going to clear arches.

How do you know the offset is not ok?

S-Type has an unusually large offset.

Hi, I have checked and they have 49mm offset and my std wheels are 60mm.

Will this cause problems?

Thanks.

They'll stick out considerably further than Jaguar designed. Will also mess with the suspension as the weight will be in the wrong place. Possibly even the right size tyres will rub.
