I apologize if this is obvious, but to me, my 05 S-type is exhibiting counterintuitive behaviour.

If I leave the car unlocked and then open the door, the alarm (horn) sounds. Defeated by putting key in ignition or pressing unlock on the remote.

This can't be correct behaviour can it? Or, am I missing something?

 

What condition is your battery in?

 

Battery is tip top. Snappy. No other electrical gremlins whatsoever.

 

If it's happened ever since you got the vehicle it could be 'passive arming' - a dealer configurable option available on some models for some markets.

I had an XJ8L with this feature and got the dealer to deactivate it because it was so annoying!

I will check that out the next time I am at mechanic. Could have done that when I got him to enable "Global Closing" from the remote. Doh!

I will also document what workflow actually makes it behave like this. Puzzling
