alarm tone not working

alarm tone not working
when i lock or unlock the car, (2006 XJ8L) there is no beep. the lights flash and the alarm works and makes one heck of a racket, when set off, but no beep when i lock or unlock the car. is there a way i can reset that? has anyone heard of this? as always thank you for your help.
