Urgent Help: Jag shorts during ignition

Hello all
My 2000 Jag S type has a short circuit problem (I think). When I turn the ignition on the car does not turn on and I hear a short circuit noise from the boot and car is completely dead. I have to wiggle the battery terminals to get the connection back up and after a few tries (many short cicuits later)the car starts up. Sometimes the terminals get real hot. Anyone got any ideas on this issue. I know that if a capacitor is spoilt this may happen in an electronic circuit i'm not sure how that can be applied to the car? Any help will be appreciated greatly. Thanks

may just be fuel pump priming which is normal.. but the wiggle of the battery terminals to make it start is weird.. check the little white connector near the battery negative side check to see if it is corroded..

This problem I have is a complete short circuit, the car loses battery power, some clicking noises come from the instrument cluster where all the indicators move up and down and eventually die. Then I have to go back and wiggle the battery terminals for it to come back to life, but I will look for corrosion at the negative terminal, maybe replace all the wiring and I will see what happens. Well, first of all, it is not a short circuit, if it was, you'd be blowing fuses right and left. Heat is *normally* caused by resistance, whether it be a bad ground, loose connectionor corrosion. Also, the fact that wiggling the cables has any effect on the condition is a dead give-a-way that it is either a loose connection/bad ground/corrosion.

And Otis not looking for corrosion on negative side that he said. There is a little two pin white connector that will likelyjust be hanging down beside battery on negative side. Look at that for corrosion.
My S did the same thing when the battery went dead. It would make the clicking noise you mentioned and the indicators would move all the way up and back down.
My guess would be that it's a bad connection to the battery. Check for corrosion like J Genius and FJTech mentioned. Keep us posted.
