Can someone tell me what is involved in changing the spark plugs in a 2000 S-Type, V8? The dealer wants $325 to change the set.
The car was running fine when I got home. When I tried to start it twenty minutes later, it would barely run. I towed it to a dealer and they said I need new plugs (75,000 miles) Any thoughts?

 

OK, so I figured it out for myself. The fact that the dealership wanted over $300 made it sound complicated. It's not. For those of you who want to try it yourself, just unscrew the 6 bolts on the cover located on the top of the cam cover. The spark plugs are located under the coils for each cylinder.
The next thing is that the dealership was full of crap when they said that the reason why the car suddenly stopped running was because it needed new spark plugs. It didn't sound right - and it wasn't. BUT...it cost me $200 in towing bills and another $120 for the dealer's "diagnosis".
Stay away from West Side Jaguar in Cleveland.

 

Was your check engine light on? Did you need to replace any of the ignition coils?

I have a 2000 S-type V8 with a similar problem ... I just noticed your post.
Were the old spark plugs the cause of your starting problem? Did you have
to re-gap the new plugs when you put them in?
