Valve cover gasket replacement 02 4.0 s-type
Hey guys, my car (108k) is burning oil and I can smell it periodically. I monitor the oil level and if I add any oil I'll write down the date and milage. I suspect it's the valve cover seals and specifically the spark plug seals because when I got a CEL my code reader read cylinder #2 miss fire. I did the old swaping of a couple of coils and plugs to see if it was the plug or coil to follow the misfire code and some of the plug wells had oil in it. Enough for me to dip paper towels down in there to soak up the oil before removing the plugs. No oil hits the ground and no obvious liquid trails under the car.
How difficult is replacing all these gaskets. Got a garage quote of 750.00 and knowing the RockAuto gasket kit is 100.00, the labor cost is well worth my time to repair even if it takes me 2 days.
I looked around here for a how to and can't find one.
Thanks for any help.

Replacing the cam cover and spark plug boss seals is fairly straightforward.
You are going to need a tool to disconnect the fuel line over the Bank 2 cam cover to get it to clear the oil filler neck. It's also helpful to have 8mm and 10mm universal quarter-inch drive sockets. Deep sockets are also needed for some of the nuts securing the plates holding the wiring harness.
Be very careful with all plastic hose connections and the electrical connectors to the fuel injectors as they become brittle over time and can easily break. Perform the work when the engine is cold as the brass inserts in the cam covers that secure the spark plug cover and coil units can separate from the cam cover.
