Valves out of adjustment?
Hey guys, I've got a 2000 Jaguar S-type 4.0. Recently the engine has really started making a loud chattery noise. It sounds like there's a Chevy small block with aftermarket cam under the hood! After the engine heats up, the sound becomes faint. It makes the sound at idle and driving. It's really noticeable under harder acceleration, even after warmed up. Do you think a valve-lash adjustment is needed? I've never had a car sound this bad, if it is the valves could they be that far off spec?
Any other ideas or experience with this sort of thing?
We just recently replaced all the spark plugs and coils.
Thanks in advance.

No, the valve lash is basically set from the factory on these bucket type lifters.
I would hook an oil pressure gauge up to the engine and check it. I am willing to bet that your timing chain tensioners are cracked.

Thanks for comments guys! Wow, I hope this doesn't lead to anything worse! So what should the oil pressure be? What would the pressure tell me?
The plugs and coils were changed about 5000 miles ago.
