Default Weird brake problem

Everything works fine except the center brake light, but I'm getting code P1572 Brake Switch Circuit. The brake switch replacement seems to be an easy one from what I've read and will cost me around $60 for parts to replace both. The center brake light reads open across the circuit at the assembly when tested with a multimeter. I know the brake light is bad, but could that be causing the thrown code? That doesn't make since to me.

Sorry, I thought I had included that information. It's a 2000 S-Type 4.0. Thanks.
