Sorry to hear it. Please post an intro in the new members section so the moderators see you.

Do the lights and other electrics work? Please check lots and post about which do and which don't.

Also, see my sig below - we need your car details.

Next, before you even put the key in the ignition do you see the PATS light (top centre of dash) flashing every few seconds? If you do, when you first turn the key to position II (just before the Start/crank position), don't crank the engine but instead watch the PATS light for a couple of minutes and report what it does.

Do you have a spare key? Does it behave the same in all respects?

Welcome, lots of help available here.

Just for clarity, 'cranking' and 'turning over' meaning the same thing to most people. Your engine apparently cranks, but does not start/run following the installation of a new battery. Why was the battery changed? Did the car run OK prior to the change?

Thanks Mikey! I was confused by that too.

Please tell us does the engine turn over and fails to start or does it fail to crank or turn over? That distinction helps a bunch with troubleshooting!!

Default car battery

Hi to you all that answered.
The car was running just fine. I have checked the lights, everything.
I had a friend mechanic (who worked on gmac's) come over and check it
out.. he thought he might know.. so I did all of those put key in, check light on dash, clean posts, great cables.. car was in WONDERFUL shape.
I'm just really lost. Don't want to take it in to shop...
Is there a button to push after you change battery?

Thank you to all who is helping me.
Rebecca

1blond-

To answer your question, no there is nothing special that needs doing after a battery change. It should start right up.

Default pats

Ok, I have no idea what that means. I'm assuming that is the red light that flashes on dashboard right underneath the windsheld. Is that correct?
I'm not going to post pic of me. Sorry guys. just want my car working.
But thanks for the try.

Ok, the car should start right up? But is there a security thing I should do?

The only thing you have to do after a battery change is reset window 1 touch, park brake(if elect) and reset clock. Theres always that distict possiblity that
1. Fuel pump went out
2. Coil relay in engine compartment fuse box stuck open
these are coincidental and nothing to do with changing a battery, and yes the pats(passive anti theft system) light is the one you said under the windshield front and center of dash

It's because you guys in England don't know the proper spelling of center.

Tee Hee Hee... Sorry JagV8, had to...

OP. I'm confused too.. The engine turns over (cranks) but won't run?

Check what JagV8 said about the PATS light. It may be that the car doesn't like the key or something or what BRUTAL said about the fuel pump or relay.. From there I'm clueless.

Quite a ways, I'm afraid. Los Banos is in Northern Calif. somewhat south and east of San Jose, south of Sanfrisco.

You guys are great!
Everything you guys have posted, I've done.
So I have no idea what to do next.
I'm hoping the fuel pump has not gone out..
how will I know if it did?
Is that why my car has not starting?

Was this before you changed the battery or after the battery change?

A Model Year (MY) and engine size would possibly help as well.

Did your GMAC friend check for spark, or fuel delivery?

Are there any recorded codes (OBDII would be needed) that you would care to share here?

Please answer post #2 by jagv8, there are clues to your unanswered questions there.

Please clarify, the motor turns over but will not start! Or is there nothing at all happening when you turn the key to start the ?? (MY, engine) vehicle?

Help us help you!

Personally I could careless about a picture .

ok, the pats light goes on, then when I'm turning car over it goes off...
joycesjage, this all happend after I changed battery, the car was just fine b4.
yes he did, he put a little piece of rod/stick in fuel area to see if there was a spark
there was none, so he put his ear to gas tank to see if he could hear anything, nope.. didn't hear anything.
Ok joyces it seems like it is outta gas when I try to turn it on.. but the indicator says 46 miles to empty..
v8 engine.
thanks rick

Rebecca,

Still waiting for a MY (Model Year).

The fuel pump(s) are located under the rear seat bench, very easily removed. There are 2 tangs located under the bench on each front side (no tools needed).

Pull the bench seat out. Underneath the bench seat are 2 covered holes (1 on each side) see picture below, underneath those are the fuel pump(s).

Kinda looks like a double holer if you know what I mean. Anyways check the pump(s) there. Maybe you can sweet talk the GMAC guy into doing so for you. Have him check the voltage as well.

Report back...

BTW as mentioned in above posts, just changing the battery should have NO reason for the vehicle not to start.

@1blondgal - as requested, please try and be as precise with yourreplies as possible and post as much info as asked for or available to you.
This will help these S type gurus to probably identify the most likely problem for you ASAP.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply and try to help
