what happened?
Hello everybody, I've read a thread on here from a while back.. Can't remember who it was but it was about a company that was making or willing to make carbon fiber parts for the S-Type. Did this ever take off ..does anyone have any details? I'm particularly interested in a carbon fiber hood. I've seen ones listed for sale online by a company named NRG, but I spoke with NRG and they said the hood is not available!?!
Thank You,
Calvin

Back in my Mercedes days, a lot of people had them custom make interior trim out of carbon fiber instead of the wood that came with the cars. I think our hoods are aluminum (I may be wrong) which is plenty light. If you want to pay big bucks to ship your hood to Carbon Feather and have them make you a new one and ship it back, go for it. I think you could save more weight by removing your spare wheel from the trunk, which is free. In my opinion, carbon fiber hoods on a car with stereo, power seats, power windows, carpets, etc., is kind of underkill and expensive too. The minor weight savings just do not justify the price. It kind of takes me back to my Mercedes days when people would brag about how light their $$$ forged aluminum wheels were while their cars still weighed two tons.
When you see a race prepped car, everything is done for weight saving. Everything. But on a road going daily driver, one or two weight saving measures will go unnoticed.
