Default What kind of oil do you use?

I only ask out of curiosity about what others might put in their STR. I've strictly only ever used royal purple since I bought the car.

Also, some people say it doesn't make much difference using either 5w-30 or 10w-30, how true is that?

I use 5w-30 syn;what is called for in the manual in the winter is 5w30 oil. Use only the best and change it often depending on the cars use. I've always heard it's like the blood of the engine.

Gotta love $100 oil changes.

I use full synthetic, not a blend.

In four of my five cars, three of which are Jaguars, Castrol Syntec 5W30. 12K to 15K mile change intervals with either one or two filter only changes in between at either 4K miles or 6K miles. The 5th car is a Jeep GCherokee daily beater with 140K miles and it gets whatever I find cheap.

Oil: Mobil 1 0W30. Walmat in 5qt container: $22, often with $10 rebate
Filter: Bosch has the $5 filter but not sure it is designed to go with extended intervals so I have been spending $10-15 on the filter - usually factory, mann, or mahle. Seems like a big difference in internals compared with Bosch.
Interval: 7 to 8K miles
Use in STR and Volvo XC90 V8

Not cheap but beats the 9 qt of Mobil 0W40 thats only sold by the qt in the US for $8/qt that in need in my weekend car

Thanks for the invite bro, I'm sure once the little one comes along an exodus to the "Burbs" will shortly follow. The size of the garage will be a major selling point for me. Notice the "ME" and not "US"......

Btw, how easy is it to change oil on S-Type v6? I've done oil change on other cars before. I guess I can look under the car to see.

Putting 'boutique' oils in a car sure lightens the wallet, but there's no evidence that the car benefits in any way.

Straight Castrol dino juice in mine, as per owners manual.

Default G-Oil

To the original question, I use a product my company manufacturers: G-Oil. It is a beef tallow based, synthetic quality oil, that is environmentally friendly and ultimate biodegradeable. It has the API's SM certification, so it is safe to use and best of all it is an American made product, helping remove our dependance on foreign oil. Sorry for the commercial, but I believe in the product. Also, after using G-Oil, i gained 3 mpg on the highway. G-Oil is also the official motor oil of American LeMans racing, and we have a car in the LMPC series. Using our oil, we placed first in class last week at Long Beach!

MikeOh-You do understand that that product is not biodegradable nor environmentally safe after it has been used in an internal combustion engine??
Plus the fact that there is not enough beef tallow in the entire world to provide engine lubricating oil for even a small percentage of the cars on the road??

And thanks for the advertisement.

WTF is BEEF TALLOW!? Sounds like something I would munch on at 2am after 8 beers and a bottle of wine. Why is that not biodegradable but synthetic and synthetic blends are?

no they are all biodegradable BEFORE being run inside an engine. Then they are ALL contaminated. So it is really a BS statement made by non-technical fools. Again non engineers attempting to explain something they don't understand and get it completely wrong. Again!!
