Default What to look for on a 2003 V6?

My friends neighbor is selling his 2003 S-Type V6 with 117k on the odometer. I was wondering, what are some common problems to look out for? I'm planning on rehauling the whole thing over the summer, but what are some red flags I should keep in mind? So far I know the A/C isn't working which isn't a big issue for me since it isn't sack-sticking-to-your-leg weather yet.

Thanks!

I have looked at 3 of these lately. Skipping, misfires, and general need for work seems to be the norm. I think that every system should work properly. When one is out, then others are on the way. The AC doesn't work? Why doesn't it work and who let it sit and not work? Tune ups on the six cylinder engines can be pain in the ****. I would also have the engine scanned with an OCB II to find any codes. Why do we want to fix what should already be fixed before you get it? Just thinking outloud.

The radiator header tank/reservoir, at least on the 2001 model! Easy but unpleasant and time consuming job to replace.

Check all of the rubbers on the ball joints etc. Jaguar was a green firm and the rubber disintegrates over time. This also goes for the pipe work in the engine bay.

Has the gearbox oil if automatic been changed as this is an expensive job. They are not sealed for life although it was originally said so.

Jaguar's that have not been maintained will be money pits.
I would move on and find a good one.
Since your on this list I would ask here as people are always buying/selling.

Yeah I'm definitely going to ask to see service records and when the last time the major parts, especially transmissions, were serviced. I've read some transmissions failing at 75k, so it's possible he might've already done his. Thanks for the tips guys. Much appreciated. Going to look tomorrow and will update when I do. All I know is it's been his DD up until a few years ago when he replaced it with a new Merc. His son used it since then so that worries me a tad.
