What lug wrench to get?
So, a little while ago I replaced the poor two-part lug nuts with the recommended Mitsubishi one-piece replacements. I knew I needed a new lug wrench but my local mechanic just happened to have one, from a Toyota I believe. I checked the size with a lugnut in my hand and confirmed that the size was correct. I didn't try to fit the wrench to the wheel, however...
On Saturday I replaced my 18" peeling chrome Vulcan wheels with a set of XF 18"s I located on ebay. When I got the car home from that same mechanic I decided to check the lugs and found that the head of the wrench he had given me was too wide to fit into the wheel. I then tried doing the same thing on one of the old Vulcans and found the same thing. The wrench won't fit into the wheel. I did find that an spark plug socket that I happened to have does fit new lug nuts and slides into the wheel.
So I'm wondering, for anyone who has replace the OEM two-piece lugnuts with the recommended Mitsu one-piece ones, what kind of lug wrench are you using?
Thanks

I've replaced the lousy capped lug nuts on both of our Jaguars. In both cases after doing so, I went straight to AutoZone and purchased a 24-inch breaker bar and the correct deep-well socket to snap on it. I keep each set in the trunk of the appropriate car. That makes a fantastic quality lug wrench for less than $20 per vehicle....

I never use a cheap wheel brace (wrench)... I use a long 1/2" drive bar and a quality impact wrench socket. When I bought the car, all the wheel nuts were partially rounded and one I had to get quite brutal to remove. All are now new and will stay that way. I'll even losen them off before letting the local shop go to town with the rattle gun.
I will third the comments regarding the use of a 1/2" breaker bar and deep well socket. The factory lug wrench does not fit well with the wheels recesses as Mikey reported, and can even round the cheap two piece lug nuts. After breaking a cheap 3/8" socket on a stuck two piece lug nut for my winter wheels, I spent a few extra dollars to get a Craftsman 1/2" breaker bar and accompanying socket solely for use in my cars. I can only imagine the PITA that it would have been had there been a flat.
