Default What a Way to Start a Weekend

My weekend got off to a bang-up start. While running some errands, I got rear-ended by a young girl not paying attention. Luckily all that was damaged was some scratches in the rear bumper. Her car didn't fare as well. Her Lexus got some scratches and the right front fender got bent. I'll let the insurance companies sort it out Monday. Grrr

Mike you didn't fall out of your car and be a fish out of water screaming my back, OH MY ACHING BACK!!! You would look really good behind the wheel of a brand new XFR!!!!

Seriously buddy, atleast no one was hurt and your vehicle doesn't seem that bad off. I'll have a drink for you.

I'm over an hour late on this one so I'll have a couple drinks ...

Sorry about the sh*t that happens. Roads here were crazy tonight. Nice warm weather, it's a Friday and it's been a very long winter. People are driving like idiots ...

Rick,

I could have done an academy award performance worthy of a soccer player. Talk about some over actors. One second, they're mortally wounded and after drawing a red card on the opposing player, they're miraculeously cured. You would think Jesus Christ himself was one of the trainers.

Mike, so sorry to hear your tale of woe....Its one I can relate to after my son was t boned by a WVM earlier in the week.

Glad that its superficial though and no one hurt....Hopefully it'll all be sorted sooner rather than later

Been rearended twice. Once in a Dodge Omni and another time in the TR8. Scared the crap out of me both times. Glad you are OK. Hope the car isn't too bad.

Sorry about your luck, Mike...was she busy texting?

Lots of risks out there: This morning, about 5:45 on US 287 S (divided, limited-access highway, 70 mph limit) I came upon flares, fire truck, and several state troopers. Very large and apparently dead cow in right lane, and about 15 yards further south an overturned car straddling the centerline pointing south and resting on its hood with roof severely caved in on driver's side. Didn't look good for the driver but no one visible and no officials around the car. Hope whoever it was is ok.

Well, she was probably paying attention to something, only it wasn't driving. A good possibility is texting while driving.

The possibility of getting rear ended with family in the back seat is why my car search excluded cars, especially hatchbacks, with limited crush space in the rear with the seats up. Some of them only have a couple of feet from bumper to seat back.

+1 plumsauce. I've been rear-ended twice in the Grand Marquis, first was fairly significant impact with the back bench stacked with 3 occupied child-seats! Great having 4'-5' of crush-space filled with metal between you and the threats. 2nd sounds like very similar to Mike's incident save I couldn't find any damage at all on it, not even scuffs on the chrome...but I'll confess as soon as I felt the impact my 2nd thought was "I REALLY hope she broke both tail-lights!" (1st was "hope she's ok....of course!) as I was actively searching for an XJ at the time, planning to donate the Mercury.....

Hang in there, Mike. I know how it feels to be clobbered by a moron, except in my case it was the front end of the car. Keep us posted as the details emerge....

I took the money and ran. The girl's insurance company gave me a check for about $500, so I took that and will mess with the car later. After waiting for about 2 weeks to get my Audi fixed last month due to somebody running a stop sign in front of my wife, I didn't want to go thru that hassle again. The scratches aren't even noticeable at five feet or more.

Mike

Maybe put $150 towards a detail, and let them see if they can buff most of it out...that distance may improve to 2-3 feet. Take the family out to Six Flags (or your regional equivalent) for the day with the rest.
