I pulled the intake off for my engine swap and when I looked down the head side of the intake I see a piece of what looks like felt and a white wire. Any idea what this is? Does the intake come apart to check things out?

It may be hard to make out in the picture but maybe you get the idea

 

I have seen the fibre mesh you are looking at when the end cap on the intake 'blew-off' and shut the engine down on a customer car.

The 'mat' is supposed to be one piece but it looks like yours is coming apart or has dislodged.

The intake is one-piece so there is no practical way to disassemble.
