So it comes and goes, huh? My guess is that Jaguar will eventually do this only for the purchase of a brand-new car (at top-dollar prices, of course). If you buy a pre-owned one, even with remaining factory warranty, the free scheduled maintenance to 40,000 miles probably won't apply....

Glad I used my last one up in July 2009. Went ahead and had the 40,000-mile freebie service done at 30,000 miles, about ten days before the car's 4-year factory warranty expired....

 

$270 for the coolant tank. Did the work myself.
$700 for four new tires. Did not install them myself.

That's it. I have the following to do though:

Headlight repair (auto-leveling not working). Going to the shop for repair.
Replace the brake pads. Have to go to the shop.

 

Take a look at Brutal's headlight fix. It fixes the self leveling for the cost of a couple screws. Brakes are pretty easy to DIY too...

-IMT O-Ring replacement (included new iridium sparkies which weren't needed but I had the intake off)
-Valve Cover and Spark Plug Gasket, 6 Upper Intake Gaskets (which in hide sight was the IMT's leaking, but oh well)

-Labor SAVED thousands! Does NOT include the several cases of Busch Light to accomplish said repairs!

 

Could be of interest to Delta 66: My battery failed one morning in my (then) XJ6. I went to the scrapyard and got one for a tenner. It worked ok, swung the 3.2ltr. petrol engine like a maniac.
TIP for buying a second-hand battery: Take along your test lamp, because there will be a pile of batteries there in the 'yard. Don't buy any battery that's discharged itself, only go for the ones that have power. Make sure the battery will physically fit in all three dimensions, and you're getting lugs or spades posts. Don't be TOO fussed about ampere-hours, if it's near, it will do. If you have a digital voltmeter, and you can get more than 12.6volt you could have a beaut. See that it's topped up with clean soft water, or de-ionised B4 fitting. See any sulphation of batt. terminals or connectors is cleaned off. Smear a bit of grease/vaseline on terminals, will stop further sulphation (a white excrescence, shifted easily by boiling water from the kettle).

What "plastic tether cover" are you talking about? Perhaps for the child car seats, maybe? No rug rats in our household so I wouldn't know about these....

 

Those are the ones (located on top the parcel shelf). The little tabs that flip up and down are nearly impossible to get to with the head rest in place. One was missing when we purchased the vehicle and I had broke one. The one I broke, I super glued back in place and switched it to the middle (unused) postion. Shish don't tell anyone ok?

 

Are you saying that the dealership charges fifty bucks apiece or fifty bucks for the set of three?

Either way, that's a monumental ripoff....

 

50 clams each. I was told Jaguar used to supply just the plastic pieces (around $20.00), now they come with the metal anchor and bolt. The moral here do NOT break one!

Jeff was going to inquire about these at his dealer, but I am assumming he forgot to.

 

I had the good news from my friendly Jaguar dealer 1 week after I bought my 02 STR with 39,000 km (24,000 miles) and a full history, that the hydraulic rubber bushes ON ALL 4 lower wishbones were all ruptured and leaking!

Here in Australia we may have avoided a recession but we pay double or triple for anything automotive. Eg. price I paid for this car was US$55,000! New XFR here is US$200,000......
You guys are very lucky in the States!

Anyhow back to these stupid liquid filled rubber mounts, of course I had to buy the whole wishbones from Jaguar as they don't sell these bushes that are pressed in seperately. Average cost each here?.....US$1,400 x 4 = $5,600.
Sensible outcome? Bought only good used rears @ US$350 each=$700.
No fronts available used anywhere yet in the country that are suitable.

Although have found a pair for 350 pounds deliverd, that I am about to buy from the UK.

Still baffeled how these could perish at such low mileage?
We do have plenty of speed humps here in Melbourne though.

Other than oil changes and two new tires, had to get front brakes and a new battery. Dealer charged $998.00 - but they threw in a free car wash woo hoo!!

 

Wow. A cool grand for front brakes and a battery. Your dealership doesn't happen to be Robin Hood Jaguar, does it?!

 

Hiya Aussie John, so you have those bloody speedbumps too? They're a bugger over here in UK. And they don't just damage suspension joints, they knacker your exhaust systems as well. And who pays? Joe bleedin' Soap, that's who!
I had the rattling bushes on the back shockers on my XJ6, they were 40 quid each from Jag. themselves. So I got "pattern-parts" instead. Job done. These were just like any other shocker (except Jag.) with metalastick rubber joints at EACH end, unlike Jag's fancy bearing at bottom (the bit that gets loose).
So, my old matey, see if you can get pattern parts (they are new manufacture) from UK via Google/E-bay. I've never had any bother with them. There's always someone, somewhere making these, it's just finding them that's a pig.

$525.00 labor to have it all put on and four wheel alignment

 

Yup, I forgot... The molding is coming loose on the driver's side so I'll ask this time..Promise...

 

$15.00 gearbox spring cost me over $800.00 to repair.
Labour costs were the most, then oil and gaskets.

 

Not my bigest, but the most shocking! 500 bucks to replace a burned headlight. $250 for labor and $250 for the bulb. Ouch!!

 

I think hardly anyone fits the Pirellis.
