Default who has installed the Mina pulley ( THEMSELVES)

I have it on the way and would like to see the process

I know there is the cut it off and install new and press it off and install new..curious as to those who have done it and the opinions

What pulley did you end up going with?? 1.5 or 3.0

Vance, Mina only sells 1.5 lb pulley. Fergs, i witnessed my s/c stock pulley cut off. The mechanic described the rest. Move coolant reservoir to side, then go at it.

Did it on my XKR with the 3 pounder...here is my experience:

With the Mina 1.5 you do not need to grind the snout. The superchargers are the same.

Cool thanks. I didnt even know Mina only sold one. For some reason I thought they sold both. Now I see why you were trying to source the 3lb with the dummy pulley.

Mafioso is kind enough to let me borow his nylon 'dummy" pulley (from Phoenix Coach Works) as a means for the mechanic to scribe then grind the snout down to clear the small diameter Eurotoys 3 lb. pulley. For a 1.5 lb install: To avoid jacking up the motor (unbolt motor mounts, etc.) you simply (slightly an understatement) unbolt the coolant reservoir and set it aside, then cut off the stock steel pulley, then slide the aluminum Mina 1.5 lb pulley partially on, use stock pulley bolt to drive on pulley. The aluminum pulley is easier to install than the steel pulleys.There are a few tutorials with pics that members have put together.

2004 STR 50,000 miles. I did mine 3lb pulley, I used a puller to remove pulley and it also pushes it back on, all though I did put the pulley in the oven for a while to make the install easier. the puller I used was for a mustang which I borrowed from a friend, to use the puller you have to remove the overflow tank, water crossover pipe which goes just above the snout so you can get the puller on, and the thermostat housing ( low temp thermostat ) then loosen motor mounts place a small piece of 2x4 under oil pan and raise the engine to utilize the puller. Plus it was much easier to see what you are doing when working on the snout. This was probably a little longer and maybe slightly more expensive bought new gaskets for the crossover pipe and thermostat the nipple also broke on the overflow tank when removing which was probably a good thing plus drain and fill cooling system. I just could not bring myself off the old pulley off. Hope this helps you make up your mind. Paul

Here is a picture of a puller that would work on our cars. It's being using on a Ford in the picture. A number of places do rent this if you want to DIY.

Thanks tbird. I rented the same tool from Eurotoys when popping on a 1.5. The mechanic ended up cutting off the stock steel unit because it necessitated jacking the engine because the pulley puller won't clear. He also said the 1.5 lb Mina pulley is aluminum so it was easier to push on. The 3 lb pulley is steel so a puller and/or heating it up is necessary. Some don't use a puller to force the 3 lb pulley on but opt instead to use heat alone. This would be especially useful if not jacking the engine.

to clarify..if you remove the resevoir you DO NOT need o jack the engine??..if so thats cool since ive already removed it a couple times..like when I did the belt replace

Ferg, check with T-Bird wether the reservoir stays if jacking her up then using puller.

Won't it be cheaper to just send the whole S/C to Eurotoys and have them put on the 3lb pulley and have it ported? I'm sure you might save some money but if its a just a $100 difference then I would in my opinion just have it sent off and do the rest once received back from them.

The pulley is under 300 but if you get it ported its over 1000 so its a huge difference. If your doing just the pulley its extra not need work to remove the whole supercharger. So to answer your question its not cheaper or within the 100 dollar difference.

They lowered the price on them. The last time I looked it was over 1000. I wish they had dynos of there port. Cause if thats with a pulley thats alot less then a snake bite. They do charge to install the pulleys. Its at the bottom when you pick the options. Its 175 more for a 3lbs or 45 for 1.5. Its still time consuming to remove the supercharger then you would have to ship it and wait for the porting then get it back to reinstall. I am curious about this since the price has gone down. If I was gonna do a port though I would get it rebuilt just for piece of mind and know they charge more for that. Thats another 575.
