Default Window question

I know there's a million threads about windows already, but I've been searching the forum and haven't found any experiencing my issue.

The front passenger side window is up and will not go down. It makes a "clicking" sound when you hit the button on both the drivers and passengers side door. Fuse is fine. I took the door panel off and don't see any issues off hand. No broken plastic, and the cable isnt broke. Could it be just the motor? Or would it be the regulator? Or both? I hate to buy both parts if I dont need them.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the 7,913th window thread

I do not know what year car you have but the s-type has had a series of window problems most all related to the window regulator. I replaced all four and one twice on my car so I am betting that you have the same problem, the crunching sound is a giveaway. If your window is up you should secure it with tape to prevent it from falling and breaking the glass and adding to your expense. This link to my page will show you how to do it Jaguar window regulator 2000 s-type

I have a 2002, sorry I need to update my sig.

There is no crunching sound, and the window was working fine untill one day it just wouldn't go down. But it does make a "clicking" sound when you hit the button like a relay clicking or something. I guess my best bet is to replace the whole unit bc it will eventually go anyway the way it sounds.

It may not be the regulator.
Sounds like it could be an electrical fault, it would be worth checking that out before springing for a new regulator.

any tips on how to tell if it could be the motor? as i said there is a clicking sound when you hit the button on either the drivers door or passenger door, sounds similiar to a relay, but the window wont move at all.

thanks

The clicking noise indicates that the relay is getting power from the switch. so check the windows might be track, stuck or loose. Otherwise it might be the regulator or electrical wiring.

It's the motor. Just change the entire regulator because for the early S Type and Lincoln LS the whole thing is only about $60 from Amazon. Just had the exact thing happen to my wife's LS.
