Default Wipers stopped working

Today, Sunday, my wipers stopped working. You can still hear the motors working though. They stopped shortly after a strong wind pinned them in the up position. What would cause this? I'm hoping the gears aren't stripped that connect the wipers to the motor. Is it an easy fix? Inexpensive fix? I do have a couple of junk yards near by for certain spare parts.

The rain has stopped for a few days, but I need them working ASAP.

Any and all ideas welcome.

I'm dubious it would happen to both at the same time, but if the nuts securing the wiper arms to the splined pivots loosen up, the arms will ride up slightly on the tapered splines and the driving splines will smooth out the matching splines in the wiper arm, nicely.

Easier to believe if it only happened to one, having both fail simultaneously in that mode would be bizarre.....you didn't just have them off for some sort of service, recently, did you?

Open the bonnet and remove the black caps from the windscreen wipers and look to see if bolts have come loose. You can also see if the gears are still moving.

The bolt came loose to the motor assembly. Once I tightened it, I'm back in business. Thanks for all the advice.

Yup same thing happened to me. Good to check those bolts for tightness every so often.

I plan on putting green or blue Loctite on it later this month. It shouldn't come loose with that on.
