V8: No heat from Climate Control
Hi,
I have just purchased a 2000 reg V8 S Type. I love the car but I am having a problem where I cannot get any heat from the climate control.
I'm on the brink of throwing the car back to the dealer and getting them to change the heater control valve but it's bugging me that it seems to be more of a software problem and just needs resetting
Before I got the car it was stood on the forecourt for about 3 months and had a flat battery (needed to be jump started from a pack for the test drive). The garage MOT'd the car and fitted a new battery prior to purchase so all is well but i'm thinking the flat battery may have caused the problem with the climate control???
The outside air temperature constantly reads 10 deg C/50 deg F (default value maybe??...). The Air con seems to work fine and all the other controls appear to work, the only problem is I cannot get any heat. The coolant level is not quite at maximum but pretty close (just about to get some coolant so I can top it up)
Any ideas anyone? Is there a software reset that can be easily performed or am I looking at a new heater control valve? Getting cold is not fun!

Hmm..I have no idea considering that I just recently purchased one myself. I purchased it from a private owner...she told me the only issue was the heat not working. I put some engine coolant in there and walaah..problem was solved.
Maybe you should fill it up to the max and see if that works first.

its not software, the rubber valves are stuck in the closed position in the heater control valve. Happens alot esp. here in Txas were it stays shut most of the year and then when you want ot use it its stuck closed, and yes ive taken them apart and youre not going to fix it and reuse the old 1. 2 half the time the stock heater valve damages the drivers in the ac control module(faceplate with buttons, unless you have nav.) so after the control valve is replaced it still wont open or only 1 side does, so you have to replace the ac module. I estmimate both upfront and if not needed no harm no foul, if needed theyre already expecting to replace the module too

This has shown a constant 10 deg C / 50 deg F since I had the car when the outside temperature has been between -5 to 5 deg C. Does this point to the AC module needing to be replaced?

Since you are using C readings and use the word forecourt i take it you live in England. Im not sure what recourse you have but here in the US most dealer bought cars come with a 30 day, 1,000 mile warranty. I would definitely ask them to pay for the repairs. It probably wont be that cheap to fix
