BTW, getting them chrome bits to match the black pack, is it possible? can the parts be swapped or powder coated like the wheels?
Just get them wrapped.

....I don't think so. Why do you say it's an "R"? Badges?

I say its an R because it is an R, I'm not gunna blindly assume its an R without knowing for sure And not just the badges but them quad exhausts should be a bit of a give away too

Infact I'm pretty sure that F Type R Coupes were here in 2013!

And I'm pretty sure you're wrong. :-) ..and no coupes at all in 2013. My 2014 F Type V8S has quad exhausts too.....you DO know that right?

There were no "R" badged F types in 2014. End of story. Foosh already told you this earlier.

Cheers,
Dave

You're misinformed. Attached is the 2013 UK brochure, showing only the models I listed above.

The V8S engine in the 2014 V8S is identical to the later V8R models, with the exception the the ECU tune. Quad pipes were identical to later R models. As you will see, no coupes were offered. It was developed as a convertible first and only offered as a convertible the first model year, followed in the next model year by the coupe. That was the case worldwide.

Perhaps there is a difference in MY designations in the US and UK. Right now, "2017" models are being delivered in the US, and we've barely started 2016.

Are 2017s now being delivered in the UK?

One thing that is clear is that the very first model year (whatever it was called) was only sold as convertible worldwide, there was no R model in that very first year, and the coupe came approximately one year after the F-Type convertible first went on sale. There are no 2014 US spec coupes.

No 2017 plates here i don't think, we clearly have different registration systems! And to be honest i don't fully understand how it works haha, all i know is there are definitely 2014 plate coupes here in the UK, if that means something different over here i couldn't really tell you!

Glad we cleared that up!

The term, "201X plate" has no meaning in the U.S. Plates and registration are handled differently by each of the 50 U.S. states and are not associated w/ a model year. However, model year is listed on the registration paperwork.

Yes, there is a model-year difference. The first F-types in the US were 2014 MY, delivered spring of 2013. The F-types in the UK, delivered in the UK at about the same time were MY 2013, I believe.

Hmmm; seems like a difference in terminology then.... Thanks for the clarifications. Now excuse me as I go make sure my 2014 V8S has 4 tailpipes! ;-)

j/k

Maybe this is the wrong thread for this question, but why was there only 1 year of V8S? It's the same car in every respect (AFIK) except for the tune and badging. If it was for marketing I'd think that they would continue with the S and charge a premium for R.

There were 2 years for the V8S (495HP) in the U.S. (14 & 15) model years, and the V8S were RWD convertibles only in both model years. In '16, all U.S. V8s became AWD and both convertible and coupe became R models (550HP). The 15 R Coupe was the only RWD R model ever available in the U.S.

RWD V8s are no longer available in the U.S, but remain available in the U.K. and other markets, at least for the 16 model year. It does get confusing.

Yeah, just pulling your chain. Interesting conversation actually; I kept seeing references to 2013 cars now I think I get it: In North America we go by Model Year (i.e. SAE 10th digit in the VIN and all that) whereas it seems that in the UK (and elsewhere in Europe?) you go by "plate" year as Timbo said. Here, we can buy 2017 MY cars (for example) part way into 2016 as Foosh mentioned.

In the future I'll make sure I use the term "model year".

Good luck on your purchase and make sure to post pics. You'll love the car! :-)

The tune and the badging are separate issues, I think. The badging issue was related to copyright and a lawsuit by Audi apparently though I remain unclear why that would affect the V8S and not the V6S....

The tune is simply a matter of coming up with changes to entice new buyers and to keep up with whatever brand X, Y and Z are doing.

To add further confusion, according to those in the know, the V8S "488hp/495PS/495hp" motor actually uses the XKR-S 510PS software so it would appear that marketing has played with the numbers a bit too.

Cheers,
Dave
