Just got a call from my indy shop that both the water pump and seal have to be replaced. I am little concerned considering my 2012 XFR only has 31,000 miles on it. Are these failure "normal"?
I have an exclusionary extended warranty so not worried about the repair cost but concerned about how quickly it failed.

I did a lot of research before buying my 2010 XFR, and the one thing that always came up in searches was the water pump. Sure enough, the one I bought had a leaking pump (found out during a pre-purchase inspection). I still bought the car and had the pump replaced.

Thanks. I expected water pump issues but not this early. I owned a Land Rover before and the water pump on that thing went out 3 times over the course of 100k miles. LOL I guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
They have failed as early as 10k miles, mine went out around 48k. I would say yours is not surprising.
Hopefully revision four or five which ever they are one finally fix the problem, the newest part # has been posted in this forum and the XJ forum I HIGHLY recommend finding that # and insist on that version.
Yep, the problem part is the plastic cross-over pipe on the NA 5.0, the S/C has an alloy pipe that is not a problem.
From my copy of the Workshop Manual:
Received a call from Galpin Jaguar informing me of the exact same thing. They'll be replacing it obviously, but they did mention that it's a common problem with the XFR. In addition, they'll be replacing the the front "nose" of the blower as well. Apparently the water pump was leaking just a bit but needed to be replaced regardless.
Extended warranty approved all repairs. Based on the total repair cost the indy shop thought they would send an inspector out but they did not. The indy shop said that this is the first time they have worked with a warranty company that was quick to approve all repairs and loaner car. They told me I did a good job in picking an excellent warranty company.
I was told it would take about 3 - 4 days to perform all the repairs.
Seems our circumstances are parallel. The inspector will be out at the dealer today to verify what can/cannot be covered by my extended warranty. The service manager seems hopeful that most if not all repairs will be covered. So far the only major concern would be the water pump and seal.
Yup, apparently they have to drop the transmission to be able to perform the rear main seal repair. I told them to have a good look while in there for any other items need to be replaced/fixed under extended warranty.

Noticed my rear main seep a couple oil changes ago. Exactly why I still change the oil from the bottom sometimes. Only 7mo or 4kmi. left o my warr. too. Higgins is going in real soon.
Update: So I have been driving the car for a few weeks. No issues.
Total cost of repair was $2100.00 (50% of the warranty cost). The warranty covered fluids and state taxes. Make sure to buy an EXCLUSIONARY warranty if you guys decide to buy one.
