Many have not seen a Jaguar with Spun Aluminum dash panels. Here are a few images of my 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition with the rare (not seen very often) Spun Aluminum dash. The Spun Aluminum dash was an option on the 2009 XKR PE model.
And, Yes...this 2009 Jaguar XKR Portfolio Edition Convertible has only 17,700 miles on it.

Beautiful car. Jaguar=wood dash for me though. I went to look at a few just recently on my hunt for my third XK_. I would see carbon fiber and just walk away. Clearly a beauty-in-the-eye-of-the-beholder thing...and you are right: I never saw the aluminum in person; rare.
I like that its real aluminum vs the stickers that seem to prevail nowadays.
Options are good. For me personally, I also prefer wood.
CF trim pieces are another aesthetic that are appealing to some I guess but also never did much for me. I like CF when its used in function, not so much form.
Richard if you wanted to improve on this.... It can be lacquered with a slight amount of grey in the clear. We do it for some products we make, its an incredibly unique look. It looks like a mile deep- which is what the wood does too, but non-lacquered finishes dont.
It looks like black gloss but with the aluminum visible underneath. Very 3-dimensional.

Its not very easy to see in pictures because the effect is 3-dimentional and depth both of which is very hard to depict in one-dimensional photo.
look at the finish below, you cant get that with paint nor metal, but you can both. Imagine how good this would look with a black interior because it picks up the black. Pure aluminum is white and fights the black in a very cold way.
They did this in a slightly different way than I am describing. But it gives a good idea of what the texture underneath could do. You can also do it this way. They rubbed black on then cleared the daylights out of it, just like you would wood.
Both of my X150s came with burl walnut. After a few years I decided I no longer found it suited such a modern car design and I preferred the large amounts of burl in the Super V8, a more classic car design, in my opinion.
I had seen the engine turn in a Bentley GT and loved the look, so I ordered all of the spun aluminum bits from Jaguar. I was a bit disappointed for 2 reasons, one is the fitment was not the same as the wood, with larger gaps between the trim & the center console. The other was the finish. It is not glossy but matte and has little depth. I had some of the original wood pieces lacquered gloss black to cut down on all of the silver aluminum. But still not happy, I just recently had everything fabricated in rear carbon fiber to match my custom made flat bottom ergonomic sport steering wheel. I like it a lot. I still have the 3 center sun aluminum pieces. Not sure what I will do with them but Q&Cs suggestion is intriguing if it would work.
Wood for me!!! to me a Jag without wood is like macaroni without cheese, rice without beans...just aint right...LOL anyway, to each his own....good option to have for those who it appeals to.
