Default anyone upgraded X300 brakes?

My XJR had new front discs and pads a year ago, and they're fine under normal driving.
But I have a short local road circuit which has twisty sections, and it's easy to fade the brakes after 3-4 miles on the twisty bits. I don't think the discs are genuine Jag, and this may be a factor.

I have contacted racebrakes.co.nz in Auckland, and if I send them a set of old pads, they can re-line them with a hotter compound. I have yet to do this.
I have seen some dimpled, slotted rotors for the X300 on the internet , which may help.

Has anyone improved their X300 brakes, and if so is there an easily-available upgrades in terms of discs/rotors, and pads?

It makes sense to upgrade the brakes if you often have a mountain drive. Switching to DOT4 brake fluid, upgrading to stainless steel brake hose, racing pads, bigger rotor, and finding crossed drilled and slotted disc, and perhaps using tires that stop faster are all part of the formula (here is a good article on this topic)
The Consummate Driver: Myth of Big Brake Upgrades.
However, would also like to know like you just asked if anyone had any good experience in this. I presume there isn't much after-market products tailored for the XJR6 market, especially now that the model is about or more than 20 years old.

today at work i had a spare minute so googled X300 brakes

a UK site came up with green stuff pads
they're pretty reasonable at 68 pounds

are they any good, or over hyped?

I've used EBC Green Stuff on my Audi S4. They are LOW dust which is nice and bite just fine. I preferred them to ceramic pads I had used on the car.

I've been using Akebono pads for a few years now. I don't know if the performance is any better, but it sure is a lot easier to clean my wheels without a ton of brake dust everywhere!

EBC pads are pretty good all round ,

Green Stuff is good if you drive hard around town - good for up to 300 C or 570 F

Red Stuff however , will do most track days and around town - up to 500 C or 930 F

Blue and Yellow Stuff will need to fitted at the track - can't get hot enough to work normally .

I would suggest a chat to DBA in NZ or NSW regarding rotor selection . You would need minimum SERIES 4 or 5 THOUSAND ROTOR type to handle the heat .

Cheers ,

I've had good success with slotted DBAs on my BA Falcon, so will see if they do old Jag rotors (we live in hope...)

EBC discs and red stuff pads, along with reconditions pistons and stainless brake hoses.

I'll let you know what they are like when the engine is back together.

Which stainless brake lines did you install? Were they a direct fit?

.

Thanks, were they a perfect OEM fit, or did you have to do any modification?

I ask because I've bought SS lines from other mainstream vendors in the past that were said to be an exact fit, but turned out to be "close" and sometimes "close" wasn't good enough. Some had odd fittings that required adapters at the caliper or hard line end, the lines were too short/long and bound or rubbed, didn't have or accept factory strain relief or mounting locations, etc...

.

Seem to be, but haven't pressurized the system yet to check for leaks as the pedal box is still out of the car.
