Exclamation Castrol Magnatec full synthetic? Some grades discontinued?

I've been researching and trying to find the Castrol Magnatec 0w-40 or 5w-30 full synthetic but I can't find it no where neither on Castrol website. Is that particular grade discontinued?

Is Mobil 1 0w-40 safe for my car or is it best to use Castrol Edge? Thanks

What year car and engine have you got? What does your owners manual say about oil specs and viscosity?

2008 Jaguar XKR

The manual states 5w-30 engine oil, meeting Jaguar specification WSS M2C913-B is preferred. Where this is not possible, oil meeting ACEA A1/B1 or ACEA A3/B3 specification may be used

The Mobil 1 Full synthetic 0w-40 claim it support ACEA A3/B3 on their website. I really want to purchase the Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 but I can't find it anywhere. I'm guessing Castrol Edge is best option?

Walmart still sells Castrol 0w40 European formula. I use Castrol 0w30 European, but that's getting real hard to find. I had to get my last case off Amazon.

Mobil 1 would be fine. If you want a 0w-40 I can't think of a more widely available one.

The Castrol Edge 0W40 European would be my choice.
It meets ACEA A3/B4. It will say Made in Belgium on
the back label.

The only one I've been able to find is the Castrol Edge. It's what I've used for awhile now.

Yeah it doesn't seem to be widely available but can be found at some stores in the US.

Amazon! I order it two cases at a time, they come in six-quarts-per-case.

How's the price? I had been using Edge since I can get the jugs at Walmart, but since the 4.2 doesn't require synthetic I got such a steal on Pennzoil yellow conventional I ran it the last time. I know, that's probably considered a crazy idea around here. Been thinking of going with Ultra since I prefer Pennzoil products.

$64.95 per case for Edge Professional 5W30, and depending on what extra stuff, free shipping. Otherwise $20.
Walmart.... Holy Crap!!!

Castrol Edge suits the 5.0 xkr engine , but not the 4.2 xkr, the edge is to light a velocity oil, you will see a bit more in oil usage with the edge. Have tried both and IMO the magnatec is the proper choice.

Either way, check Amazon dot com for lower prices on whatever oil you need.

That might be fair to say in a certain context. My 4.2 did burn small amounts of Edge. The Pennzoil I'm running hasn't burned a drop in 3k miles and technically it is thinner. It might be something to do with the add pack, though almost anything synthetic has some amount of usage in my engine.

Not at all, very much the opposite in my case.

Sean, that's a nice chart, but you can't find any of those Castrol oils in any normal retailer in the US. And if you are looking for an oil in the US that says it complies with WSS M2C913-B, good luck. None of the major brands list that Ford standard.

My guess is any major brand synthetic will probably be fine, but most don't take the time to test their oil for compliance with a bit of an obscure European Ford standard (obscure in the US anyway).

WSS M2C913-B denotes full synthetic. WSS M2C913-A is semi synthetic. A viable replacement for current requirements for Castrol w/FST (titanium additive package) which supersedes SLX, is Kendall GT1 w/Titanium. Same additive package purchased from the same vendor. That is the only other oil company outside of Castrol currently using that additive package. Picked up a case of GT1 full synthetic for less than $40.
