I'm here in Jersey. Have both Vette and Jag. Don't have the "Guinea T" or any gold chains. I'm 70 but my right foot still thinks it is 25. Try to stereotype that combination!

That's easy, a guy who's worked hard for what he's got and enjoys it.

Actually the final straw that caused their sale to Ford was that they released the XJ40 to soon before it was ready. This caused enormous warranty claims which nearly bankrupted them. Ford to the rescue.

+1, that breaks the stereotypes to pieces. Most would anticipate you having a big Buick or Cadillac.

As RobB said, this from a much younger wannabe Rob.

It seems that no one has complied with your request; so here are photos of my BRG XK - and it garners a HUGE amount of attention not just because it is an XK but also because of the colour which people invariably remark on. I think it is gorgeous.
This BRG formulation has a lot of black in it so when not in the sun it can often look almost black.

Thank you for bothering to post, shame the OP engnored my friendly request , however i have been on forums long enough to know the various categorys of posters.

If we're only talking about consumer perception, the German cars and Range Rovers are also perceived as unreliable and expensive to repair, and yet they sell like hotcakes.

Why????

My car had been a pretty reliable daily driver before it became a garage queen a year ago. Only thing I hate is it's now worth less KBB value than my wife's 07 Civic.

I believe it is called marketing and maybe some influencing by the mfg's. It amazed me when Audi finally got caught and lost a class action suit on their A4 2.0L oil burner. About 5 or so more years with tens of thousands of cars having to have their pistons/rings replaced . But the marketing team did their job and kept the kids coming back for more of them.

Sorry, I am late to my own picture party. However, I see that Gregory posted some fabulous pics of 'our' car > (We both have BRG xk's.)

Here are some pics of mine. I also have a custom shift knob.

I had wanted a Jag for years. My first love affair with Jags was when I was a Child. My neighbor owned a dark blue MkII V8. I almost owned a gold one when I was 26 but never got the cash to buy it. In later years when money wasn't a problem I looked at a 2002 XJ but couldn't commit and ended up with a Volvo because it was "reliable" (which it was). Finally two months ago I decided that I needed to just do it and found a perfect XK. Tons of people over the years had reinforced the myth of reliability and kept me from my dream. My Xk cost me less than the Lexus I was looking at and gives me 1000 times the pleasure. I get people complimenting it all the time and its a great conversation piece. Its like I joined a secret club.

Just my 2 cents but I remember when Japanese cars first started showing up in Canada. They were known for having a motor that went forever while the rest of the vehicle fell apart or just rusted to the ground. A change to the overall quality and the passage of time has erased the bad reputation of those cars. The same will happen for Jaguar. I hear the advertisements on the radio now and there are normally ads place in the papers. I see a lot more on the roads these days too. If I thought they were complete rubbish I would not own two of them.

Range Rover really has little competitors. Auto industry claims the S Class Mercedes is the Range Rover's closest competitor. They are not very reliable and expensive to fix. Partly due to the actual part costs, but also due to how many parts on that car!
