Elindo further to your question i had the cats replaced with free-flowing 100cell items and retained the rear box

As for the mid pipe section i had the resonator replaced with a 2.25" magna flow x-pipe .

This particular set-up, that is replacement of the resonators with a single x-pipe is what jaguar did on their factory 5.0 xkr-s model .

 

Don't know if Jay is still looking or found the car, but just to say finding an XK/R on a superb deal is possible. I'm also here in the UK, was looking for an XKR/Aston for around £35/40k but in the end just purely to the deal spent less than 15k on my Black 07. This was 4 years ago too!

The deal was just so good I was willing to take the standard 4.2 over the R. Four years later i've made some minor mods and it still brings a smile to my face on a Sunday morning 'fun run'.

 

Im still in disbelief that i actually posses such a beautiful vehicle i can often be caught peering out the window of the family home just to catch s glimpse of its shapely rear end lol

My mods have been external. LED Tail conversion, H&R Wheels spacers (20mmF, 15mmR), Spire Spings, Speed Pack Rear Spoiler, blacked out trunk strip, Sabre Alloys, Black grilles up/lower.

When scrubbed up its still a beaut to look at.

 

I wish my current and past ferraris had 310 ft of torque that an XK has, i would be happy all day every day
380hp/310 ft torque and 9,000rpm= heavenly bliss

 

I am new to Jaguar ownership. It's been a car that always seemed elusive to own based on finances. They are not cheap to buy or cheap to maintain. I would follow the advice of most and save a little more cash and get the right one. I waited and waited until the time was right and now that I am in my dream car I couldn't be happier.
I might suggest that it's ok to buy one that may need some cosmetic work. All parts are readily available and reasonably priced. Just make sure it's mechanically sound and you should do ok.
As far as coupe or 'vert - I always found it best to consider your location. I live in Las Vegas. I can have the top down 7-8 months out of the year.

Very reasonable deals can be found on cars NOT needing anything but another owner, no need to hope you get a damaged one with needed repairs with unknown costs. a 2007 XK can be had for @$22-27 with low miles in excellent shape, add another 3-5K for a XKR no need to source a car that needs work possibly saving a few grand but needing to put that or more into it with known and unknown issues also then having a lesser resale due to damage showing on the cars history

My advice; don't buy a car with a story or an issue. If you are not mechanic or body shop owner; why get involved thinking you may save a buck or two? Save that one for the pro's.
