Default Copper wheels on XJR?

My wheels look tired. No matter what I try I can't seems to be able to polish them. I've tried mothers and other polishes even using the drill at high speeds with the polishing foam cone.

Now I have this itch to get my wheels and side louvers painted the same color. I'm liking how copper or matte gold looks on a black car but I'm afraid it may look ghetto. What are yours thoughts?

I had the same idea as you, but could not get the shade right, made it look like a pimp wagon. Maybe something like the shade Ferrari used on the 458 Speciale?

I'm going to give it one last try. This time I'm using an angle grinder and polishing compound bars from Harbor Freight. Will report back.

OK, so polishing the wheels with the stuff I bought today was a bust. I think my wheels are possessed. I realized the wheels have a clear coat on them so I sanded one spoke with 600 grit and them followed with 1000 grit. I gave up after about an hour.

Right now I hate my wheels. I'm actually looking at buying new wheels and probably setting this ones on fire.

I've searched on Google for a reputable shop to take the wheels to get them refinished but as soon as I tell them its for a Jaguar they want $150 per wheel to polish. WTF! I can but new wheels with a little more.

So frustrating!

Try looking for companies which specialise in bead/ball polishing:

Those copper and gold colours look amazing - I'm not usually keen on anything but silver (I'm not even keen on Chrome) but I think they will look great.

Reminds me of the old Subaru turbo's a bit...

Remove wheels yourself at home and take to a paint shop(with tyres still on).

Remove plastic Jaguar centre badge beforehand.

Have paint shop prepare, paint and clearcoat.

If they ask they are for an "old Ford"

Play them at their own game!

My son lives in NC here is his e mail:

I’ve put 2 new Kumho tyres on the front of the S8 which has fixed the road noise due to heel and toe wear. I bought the tyres online for $215 delivered for both! 1 tyre replacement place said they couldn’t get my lugnuts off, they could only loosen 3 on entire car. Another place wouldn’t touch it in case they were ‘cross-threaded’ advised me to go to the Audi dealer. So I went home and got all the nuts off using only WD40 and my brain. Bl##dy idiots.

I'm contemplating this color scheme for my car. Nice, right? The color looks grey with a hint of blue. I want it more like a graphite. Second picture.

+1 on Meirion's suggestion. I've done this many times. Inside the wheel will probably have a Jaguar stamp. Just tell them your helping your neighbor with his project car which is an old ford or hot rod. If they ask questions you can just say you don't know much about it.

DOn't forget to dress like a slob. You'd be surprised at how effective this can be.

photoshop those wheels on to your car first. Can look great on one car and ghetto on another. Those wheels are very modern, your car has more of a classic styling so you may or may not like they look on your XJ. Just a thought

You can also photo shop the paint color. I think the paint would be a great fit, not so much the wheels but alas, I don't have the $10K to $15 k to re color the car (remove the engine, strip the interior and boot and respray everything). THIs is the only way I'd change colors. You'll never see a return on that investment either BW but I suspect you know that.

Well I have it but whenever I talk these things out with the warden, she just rolls up a newspaper and hits me on the nose. "No! No! Bad Boy!" Such is life.

I tried doing that yesterday. I have Adobe PSE 8 but for the life of me couldn't get good results. It's probably due to the low quality picture of my car I was using. I'm taking another picture today and will try again. My idea is to also paint the stock wheels in a copper or bronze finish.

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger but I have no choice but to wait about a month to see if I got the transfer back to Washington state. I would have to fund the move myself. It's totally worth it, I don't like living in Dirt Paso, TX.
