I already have a driving partner:
It was a very hard job getting the permits to run that road train here!
But on the serious side, I don't think the V12 is that greedy. Probably more economical than the Mercedes and BMW V12s of the same time...

I drove the XJS from Perth to Sydney (about 6000km) across the Nullabour and I had planned all of our fuel stops. That trailer could come in handy here in Australia with 1000's km between fuel stops in some regions.

I agree. My 6 litre returns fuel consumption figures of 10.4 litres per 100km. (27 MPG imp.) Most economical vehicle l own. I live in the country so not much "city" cycle in that but l am more than happy with it.

It seems a price worth paying for what you get in return but the very first time that you fill up with Gas/Petrol it can really leave you Traumatized!
I once (more than once!) pulled into a Petrol Station and as She was nearly empty thought I would fill her all the way up in one go!
So in a blatent act of 'Showing Off' I put the Pump Nozzle into the Filler and then I pulled the Trigger and also pulled out a Newspaper to read
in order to pass the time.
Determined not to look at the Pump Dial to see how much this 'Fill up' was going to Cost me, until the Pump cut out to let me know She was Full.
As I looked at the Dial on the Petrol Pump, I could feel the Blood drain from my Face.
No I was not seeing things! that little trip to the Petrol Pump cost me £123 OMG!
And then only 3 days later, I did the same again! and this was only for 'Tripping' rather than using her as a daily driver!
In the Summer 'Just for Tripping' my Petrol Bill is easily £200 per Week, which I think you'll agree is hard to wash out of your Mind.
So I usually put £3,000 in a Separate Account just for Petrol, so it doesn't hurt quite so much.

On the Britain to Germany run, I had a 24 mpg. Now, my less powerful, smaller V8 with more gear ratios gets driven carefully about the same.
So a giganticly huge old V12 with the most basic of all electrical injection systems designed in the late 70ies/early 80ies gets a better MPG than an engine designed in the early 90ies to replace it... The V8 is more refined when it comes to sensors and meters. More precise. But it still barely is any better.
When it comes to daily driving, then the XJ-S V12 is a money pit. But if you get into it's area, which is along distance drive at an accelerated speed, then you will return some really good economy...
If you drove a little 1.0l Ecoboost 3 cylinder the same way, it would be as greedy, if not greedier!

OZ, the land of the road trains. Also noted two big intake pipes and two exhaust. You suppose it partakes of the cargo as it goes???

Gotta visit the gas station in the Jaguar today or in a day or so. But, things are much better. Fifty bucks ought top it off or close to it. I think I'll need about 15 gallons.
It's LT1 and .70 OD and the Jaguar 2.88 do very well on the gas thing. I've never measured.
Nutty speedo???

And that is the cheap stuff (E10). Go the Vpower route and it is 1.50 a liter... So about €6/US gal making a steady $7/gal...
On the other side is LPG which is about €2/gal...So a tad over $2... I use that for my XJ8...
