Default Stop Tech brake upgrade !

Ho... Ho... Ho ...
Well boys, Santa Claus dropped off my holiday present a week early. I got Stop Tech cross drilled & slotted discs for front and rear. In my opinion the quality is equal to Brembo possibly better, as Stop Tech is a top notch BBK manufacturing company located in California. Made in the USA. I bought the discs from ZECKHAUSEN RACING. Here is the link to anyone who might be interested in getting these discs for the F Type car. The owner is Dave Zeckhausen. EXTREMELY knowledgeable when it comes to brakes and upgrade choices.
What do you guys think. Me like very much ! : )

I can understand slotted; but why drilled? I've countless reports of drilled rotors cracking under hard use.

Default Why ...

It's my understanding that you would have to drive the car on the race track on a frequent and regular basis, for possible cracking to occur. If I take the car to the track once a year, that would be the extent of racing my car on the track. Realistically, our cars are driven on local streets and spirited highway driving. Plus, they look awesome!

If those prices for rotors and pads are close to stock replacement EOM parts it seems like a nice upgrade.

Ubad2,
I will be very interested to read about your experience with these rotors. Although I don't have an f-type, but a 5.0L XKR, I had my mechanic get a custom set of drilled and slotted rotors made for my car. He has an associate who makes them. The first set I got were terrific, lasted reasonably well, and I never experienced the shimmy usually associated with worn or warped rotors. When I did my next brake pad exhange, my mechanic told me that the rotors were not able to be machined and that I needed new ones. He ordered another set, put them on, and as I got on the freeway for the first ride, I was shocked when gently using the brakes to slow from about 65mph, I honestly almost lost control of the car the shaking was so violent. I turned around, went straight back, had my old rotors put back on until we could get a new set. I'm now on the third set since the pads were replaced because I just hated the shimmy even though it improved each time. I am now just living with a small amount, but I hate that as well. I saw a similar set from Stop Tech for the XKR, but have been hesitant. Stop Tech sells them directly and I live about an hour from them. I also go to the track once or twice a year, ao I'm not so terribly concerned about cracking either. After you've had them on your car for a couple of weeks, would you kindly report on the feel of your rotors, and whether or not they stop smoothly from both low and high speeds. If your experience is positive, I will be heading down to get them.
Thanks.

You're not going to have any problem with stoptech rotors. Sounds like you have some cheap rotors (even if you payed alot for them).

Default Selling my OEM brake discs ...

Hi guys,
im thinking of selling my stock discs which have 1200 miles of use. Just about new. If anyone is interested let me know.
Regarding cross drilled discs and any possible danger of cracking, well, Porsche 911, BMW ///M Series and Ferrari all have cross drilled discs, so if it's OK with these brands, I'm sure it's okay for the F Type.
Thanks...

I've always used Brake Performance and never had a problem with drilled and slotted rotors. When I changed my XKR I shut the car off in neutral to release the rear electric brake, I'm not sure if you could do it on the F. For five hundred bucks for rotors and ceramic pads with a lifetime warranty, I thought it wasn't bad.

On the F-Type, just depress the EPB button with the ignition on to release the rear brakes.

We determined recently that some of the newer cars activate the EPB automatically when the ignition is turned off (mine doesn't.)

This document has the procedure for activating 'maintenance mode', which will retract the EPB.

I'm surprised, given these activation/deactivation procedures, that you don't have to get out of the car and perform some kind of medicine dance part way through the procedures.

Now that cold weather has hit the Carolina's, I might put the car on jack stands and replace the rotors and install spacers.

Just be careful not to trigger the ejection seats - the procedure is very similar.

Not quite. These cars have disks cast with holes already in them. When you start with a solid disk and actually use a drill to make these holes you also end up stressing and weaken disk material. To tell them apart just look inside the hole.

Default Stop tech slotted rotors for sale - early XKR

If you haven't yet done that, I've got a couple of fronts that might fit your car (an older XKR?) that I'm looking to sell. I ordered the wrong size by mistake, life got in the way and now I can no longer return them - letting them go cheap.

I will be going to the dealer this month to have them install the stoptech brake discs after which I will gladly post pictures of the brake discs on the car.
