Default 2015 vs 2016 R Coupe Question

I know the subjectives have been batted around here about AWD vs 2wd. I'm looking at a 2015 R coupe for $67500 (99K MSRP) with 7k miles vs a 2016 R coupe with 2K miles for about $86K ($108MSRP). It's almost a no brainer to me which to go with but I haven't been around here in a few years and don't have the latest info on the F Types so I would appreciate your input. The 16 has full leather and otherwise the options are about the same. I don't keep my cars forever and feel the 16 will depreciate like a brick whereas the 15 has taken a lot of it already. Thoughts?

Thanks,
Eric

I prefer the RWD so it's pretty clear what I'd do given the almost $20k difference...

I know what you're thinking: "Did he engage TracDSC or leave the DSC off entirely?". Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a Jaguar F-Type R, the most powerful automotive rush in the world, and would totally blow your mind, you have to ask yourself one question:" Do I feel lucky (and get the RWD)?". Well, do you, punk?

(Me?...I always feel lucky)

I just pulled the trigger on a 2015 after considering purchasing a 2016. You can find 2016s in the mid to high 70s so I wouldn't pay 86k for one. I really didn't care if I had AWD or RWD. Besides AWD the main benefits of the 2016 would be the longer warranty, included maintenance and in-control apps. I would pass on the car at 86k but I would be more likely to consider buying it if it was in the mid to high 70s.

Dynamic stability control = a walker. Some of those among us prefer to be as unstable as possible.

pnd4pnd,
In all seriousness, if you will be driving the F-Type under mostly dry conditions, you will not miss the AWD, and may have more fun with the RWD if your driving skills have progressed over the years.

Turns out the MSRP on the 15 was 108,313 so pretty close. Hesitant on the suede seats (any comments?) and I wish it had red calipers.

Living in Northern CA, the car will pretty much never be driven in the rain

I agree given the parameters you have outlined. The RWD will be more fun in the long run given where you are.....and yes the ability to smoke up the joint at will is a nice kicker.....

After the drift!

I'm sure that I would get used to it quickly, but I thought that the AWD felt a bit "heavier" in the front end and actually I preferred the RWD to drive. But then I've only driven the 6 in a RWD, I'm not sure what it is like in an 8.

the RWD is just more fun...

I'll be interested to see how the depreciation plays out over the longer-run. I would tend to think the 15's will hold a little better, as there was only one year of the RWD and there are many that value that over the AWD.

Well for now near new examples of 2015Rs high 60s - great value although a continued depreciation of a rate of $600-$800 per month is the cost of fun.

2015 has it all over the latter models imo w/ the exception of the Jaquar remote function - remote start from mobile. Sorry a geek - that is a biggee.

I have a 2015 F-Type R and had the opportunity to drive the 2016 AWD at the Jaguar Performance Academy track event in Vegas earlier this year. The AWD felt heavy and I didn't quite like how it felt when pushed around corners. The steering felt light and not as much feedback, which may be the case since Jaguar went electric power steering in the '16. The '15 is hydraulic power steering. My choice is clearly the RWD for fun factor. You just need to be more gentle on the accelerator off the stop light or you unwittingly have the guy behind you smell your tires.
