Default Carbon fiber roof flies off of SVR

I saw this on Instagram. The guy heard an explosion and lost the carbon fiber roof on his SVR. Has anyone heard of that happening?

Nope. But I'd be shocked if they just gave him a new car as a result. It's not a difficult fix, basically just glued in place (sometimes with rivits). Unless the dealer is incapable of making such a repair for some reason.

It's a Dealership repair (or, if you fancy a change...). But, it really looks bad, and they can't argue it was the customer's fault. So they'll replace the car.

Obviously, they could try to argue that they haven't had any other reports of the roof flying off, so it didn't happen.

Only it did. So...

Dear JLR. This would be an example of the difference between saying you're Customer Focussed, and actually being Customer Focussed...

I suspect they replaced the car because something like that might indicate a line failure that they need to investigate in order to find out how it happened. Panels falling off at any speed is a serious defect and they won't want to take any chances with it.

It was really interesting to see the photo of how the roof is bonded on. I don't know how the underside of the CF molding is finished, but it is not the easiest of materials to bond with. I wonder if it is possible the wrong sealant was used at the factory (or if it was a dealer-fitted option that used the wrong sealant)?

You make a really good point. Failure of the adhesive bond could have been the result of excessive body flex, perhaps resulting from the failure of other adhesive bonds holding the body together. I seem to remember some issues with the B-Pillars.
