Ok, I've been looking through all of the threads, and have found lots of info on replacing the white retaining rings including the cool write up on how to convert a 6" PVC pipe into a tool. The issue is my '06 STR has the clamps. Reading through the threads I found four people that has asked about the clamps, but nobody answered the question. Is there a special tool combo (ie universals, 1/4" drives or adpters) to get to these clamps?


I'm still tracing the P0442 fault down. I've been working on finding the issue for a few years now. I live in Florida and they don't require an inspection and since I only drive the car to work once every couple of weeks, my motivation level to find the issue is low.


I had it smoke tested and they couldnt find a leak. I replaced the fuel cap, put it up on the lift and checked all the hoses that I could see and get to. There's no fuel smell and I don't see any residue around the retaining rings.


I'm retiring from the Air Force at the end of Feb and will have four months off before I start my new job, so I'm going to spend some time on my jag and try and fix the small vap leak issue once and for all.


Anyone else have any ideas. I've read about a million threads on the P0442 issue.

this post shows how somebody had the same problem as you and it was really difficult for him to find.

 

I expect there's a jag tool. What does the workshop manual / your dealer say?

 

How about posting a couple of pictures of these "clamps". Might help out.

 

Ducmon, I went through that post a few years ago. The issue is my 2006 STR doesn't have that canister under the hood. Not sure if it's because they started using Variable Valve Timing in 2006.

There is a Jaguar tool. Will try to find a picture. It's a big plastic thing, with a brass insert for a 1/2 drive.

My universal was very loose, so I had to use the magnet to hold it in place.

 

I would have thought that it should have an evap canister. When you go here you could check it with the vin number

Maybe they are on the telephone or even the internet. But I'd check the workshop manual first and online parts sites.

I wasent aware that s types had these hose type clips, but I left the dealer long ago. An XF I worked on had the same set up as I remember. OP are you sure that is as the car left the factory. Maybe others can help by saying what their cars have.

As for special tools to tighten a hose clamp there isn't one. I do remember a brass screw driver for use on x300. Hose clip inside tank. Brass so no sparks !!

 

Could be. At least some had faulty tanks/seals and because there were no longer any of the original tanks had XF ones put in (with various tweaks to allow that).

 

I ended up not having to buy a tool. The pics above show what I used and it worked perfectly. Now I just need to wait till the seals come in.


Hopefully this will fix the issue.
