OK , I admit it...I did not need yet another watch, but I couldn't resist the new Seiko PADI with its red and blue bezel. I paired it with a custom leather strap and man it looks cool in the Jag. For $300 bucks I am a very happy camper.

 

Looks good but I stopped wearing a watch when I retired. Got my company earned Rolex sitting in it's box somewhere in the closet.

I stopped wearing a watch 5 years ago, when I finally switched to a 'smartphone' and no longer needed to have the hex calculator functionality in my 30 year old, $25 Casio watch. (yep, computer nerd)

 

I have a 20-30 year old version of the Seiko lying around somewhere... Had it serviced about 15 years ago. Never worn it.

 

It sounds like not having to wear a watch is an earned privilege .

Clocks are everywhere. In our cars & houses, on our computers, stoves, microwaves, walls, etc. Only our worker bees need a clock on their wrist.

 

Although I see more and more people with Apple watches but the traditional timepiece has become more of a collector's hobby or statement piece, no doubt.

 

Watches are cool and I think it is guy's bling. I enjoy looking at the various types and styles but as I mentioned retirement means time is your own and not a business demand or schedule. Now granted I need to know what time to leave for my golf game but the reminder on my cell phone goes off to let me know. I did get hooked in the car watch thing some years back so I have an old Corvette and Ferrari watch laying around somewhere and maybe if I saw a nice cool Jaguar watch I might get it just for fun. Enjoy

 

For me watches are 'horology' rather than just something to tell the time. I appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that goes into it; the mechanical aspects, the design of the dial and the leather strap all capture my interest. It's a fun hobby to have.

No watch for me either, to me they are decorative so no real purpose in my world. All my colleagues are into Rolex, Tag, Breitling, etc. I always tell them if they want to show off their money get a nice big gold chain or a fat diamond earring.

Seriously, I admire their taste and have no criticism for what they choose to collect. I do enjoy viewing fine watches.

 

I started wearing a watch again recently after a break for around 40 years. Mine is a Fitbit Surge though so was mainly bought for the tracking functions it provides.

It has 9 different computer generated clock face displays to choose from so I can change its appearance to suit my mood.

 

Interesting. I would've thought most of the people on this forum would also be into high end watches. Mechanical watches are certainly outdated and unnecessary as tools for telling time, so the appeal lies mainly in the artistry and craftsmanship rather than the function. Which to me is similar to the appeal of the XKR over any number of other cars that are probably objectively better in almost every way with regard to strictly transporting you from Point A to Point B.

 

I'm not up and out of bed without a watch on my left wrist. Even when on vacation if my watch should go on the blink, which happens from time to time, I buy an inexpensive watch (less than $200) to suffice until I get my watch repaired.

I have family in Biel Switzerland where all the watches are made. We have a side business (I have mostly stepped back from) that uses many of the local machine shops making tooling for these companies as contract manufacturer for our clients wanting specialized machining/prototypes. The precision processes used along with just microscopes and hands is pretty amazing.

If anyone needs micro machining or manufacturing, let me know. Made in Switzerland....

There are lots of watches with the Jaguar logo for sale on eBay and Amazon at prices ranging from under $15 Jaguar British Car Logo Metal Sport Watch With No T Shirt | eBay to over $500. But the only one that is officially licensed by Jaguar is sold on their website.

 

I wear a good mechanical watch every day - and I have several. I appreciate the craftsmanship, the intrinsic beauty, the quality materials, the fact that a small and precise machine is working away faithfully and nearly silently on my wrist.
Does a mechanical watch tell time better than a Fitbit or an Apple Watch? No, in fact no mechanical watch is absolutely accurate. That isn't the point, is it? After all, a Kia will get us everywhere just as fast as our Jaguars but without any of the pride of ownership, without the "feel good" factor that we all experience with these beautiful cars. And a watch is really the only bit of jewellery that most men will wear (gold chains and rapper bling don't appeal).
So today, while driving my British Racing Green XK, I am wearing my Christopher Ward C60 Trident Automatic: 26 jewels, excellent accuracy, Racing Green bezel, black engraved dial. Gorgeous, just like my Jaguars. And it is an English design, made in Switzerland.

 

Steel Daytona and C.Ward Trident is exactly what puts a smile to my face. Now I know I am not alone

 

I wear a Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph with silver dial, it's about 6 years old.





Smartphones aren't allowed in the office, so a watch is essential for me.
