Default Greetings from Montreal Canada

I am a new registered user but have been grabbing bits and pieces from here since I purchased my first Jag about 14 years back.
Thank you for all the great help over the years.

I recently purchased an XF luxury 2009 and have done some work on it:

Front lower and upper control arms
lower rear control arms
fixed'' a leak in the differential

This car, is simply wow. From the inside, to the handling, to the pedal- what a car.

I love her but I'm starting to feel the pain of the ''I told you so'' face my wife makes every time I spend coin on it (I do have an extended warranty just in case something major happens).

I'm starting to realise that leasing or buying new is really the only way to really enjoy Jaguars.

So with great desapointment, after having another problem on her today (yes she's older and she's filled with technology I get that), I decided she's getting fixed and beautified and then going back on the market.
I can't handle the stress of owning a second hand car like this at my older age and unfortunately I'm in no way a mechanic.

Once she sells, I'm going to lease a 2017 XF or F PACE. Would love the XJ but I simply can't affort it at the moment.

So I'll be surfing the posts here to get her looking right:

Squeeking annoying sun roof
Burnt break light (couple burnt led's means I need a new assembly)
Annoying headliner light (driver side) opens as it pleases
ABS DSC dash lights (probably gonna try a new battery first- weak battery in these cars seem to be a huge issue with electrical problems)
Annoying noise comming from inside door pannel and also window
Rest is small body work.

I thank you all for the great posts and to the admins for making this really user friendly.

I'm sorry to read you've had so much trouble with your Jaguar.

It's true though, used cars aren't for everyone. There's usually a good reason the last person got rid of it, maybe more than one as you've discovered.

I wish you well with your NEW XF or whatever you decide upon.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Jason,

No need for links from me as you're already finding your way around the forums.

The two ways to run an older Jaguar are either a well stocked toolbox or a well stocked bank account. If you aren't mechanically minded then the decision to go for a new XF or F PACE is the sensible one.

Thank you for your kind words about the forum.

Graham

Welcome to the Forum Jason!

I have had 3 used Jaguars over the past 4 years. Each of them I bought with around 90k on the clock and ran them over 110k. My 2010 XF Premium 5.0 has 127500 as of today. With any used car you are going to have problems.... My XF has gremlins yes, but has been very reliable from 90k miles. I keep up the required maintenance, and drive them hard. In the back of my mind I know that anything could happen any time.

However if you want to take the risk and drive a used luxury brand for cheap you have to prepare for expensive problems to arise. If you don't have the funds and are constantly fearing a potential issue then I wouldn't recommend a used Jaguar without a legit warranty. Here's a perfect example; The valet at my dentists office broke my start button, It is still functional but looks awful. One would simply think you could replace just the button however it requires a whole new module and cost $1200. Luckily the valet company is paying the claim. I decided that since my car is worth ten thousand dollars I am going to make my own button, and save the cash for maintenance or my amazon addiction lol. However after many small and sometimes costly experiences I decided that I would only purchase a Jaguar with a warranty or lease it. If you do buy a Jaguar you must research the common issues for that year and model. But that being said I will probably be purchasing several other Jaguars in the future. Good luck to you sir..... 1200$!!!
