Where is the oil?
Hi...just sucked and drained my xk8 from 98 for oil...dipstick showed up to max before emptying, but I only got app 5 liters of used oil out! I refilled up to max...up to second small hole on dipstick, but only 5 liters went in...I didn't change oilfilter this time. That maybe accounts for 0,5 liters...Manual says car holds 6,5 liters, so where is the rest...or is dipstick not showing the right/correct level?
Thanks
Frank

How did you get the old oil out - did you drain the sump with the oil warm through the drain plug in the sump, or did you "suck" the oil out with one of those pump-type devices ?
If you have an oil cooler, the total capacity is, I believe, 7.3 litres but you would never be able to get all of that out unless you disconnected the cooler pipes and drained that separately.

Norri - that's interesting.
My "Vehicle Care" booklet (JJM 10 16 14/72) for my 1997 4.0 car says :
Engine oil capacity - with oil cooler = 7.3l and without oil cooler 6.5l
I assume the booklet gives total capacity, rather than the amount that is likely to drain out when doing an oil-change.

I'll confess I've never measured the amount of oil I've taken out or put into an engine in my life.
I drain until it stops and fill until it hits the mark on the dipstick and sleep without worrying about it.

Did mine yesterday and it took just under 7L with fresh filter.
Like Norri I just empty and fill till it hits the top mark before starting and it drops a little once filter is filled.
Sometimes with suction method the hose doesn't reach the bottom of sump and doesn't get it all out, so takes less to fill.
