Need Help for Thermostat Housing r/r on 05 S-Type 4.2
Need to replace a leaking thermostat housing on my non-SC 4.2L and asking for suggestions before I start teardown. What other components should be replaced at the same time? Also, anyone know of any "how-to" threads on this type of plastic thermostat housing for my engine as some threads I've found are for STR models w/ metal housing, different config. Any special tools required, extra supply of band aids, etc?
I found that previous owner had dealer replace waterpump, expansion tank, thermostat, upper & lower radiator hoses and heater control valve all within a few months of each other ~7 yrs ago and 34k mi due to cooling issues. I'm now @ 68k and only recently noted low coolant level warnings (pending P1111 fault code).
Already planning to replace serpentine belt but anything else recommended?

I did this repair on my 2000 4.0 in Feb. 2015. I'll bet they are similar in procedure.

Hope that helps.
PS: I used an extractor to suck the antifreeze out from the top so NO mess that way.

Purchase the entire housing with the thermostat already installed. The part number for the housing 'kit' is AJ89485.
You will need to also remove the throttle body to gain access to all the bolts.

NBCat,
Any special tools required and if I remove the TB for easier access, are there any TB gaskets or o-rings I need before I start? Are computer resets required after re-installing TB? Thanks!

There are no special service tools required, but you need some Allen keys and sockets for some of the bolts. The outlet pipe on the block has two rear bolts that are difficult to reach, so be patient.
The metal gasket between the inlet manifold and the throttle body can be reused if it's not damaged or distorted when removed. There are no PCM resets required.
Since this is also a good opportunity to drain and refill the cooling system, be sure to use coolant that meets Jaguar specification, such as DEX-COOL.

I knew that. My point was that it isn't that hard a job to do. Best
