Default Aftermarket radio in the '03 S-Type?

Hi guys,

Forum newbie here. Sorry if this is a duplicate/repost. I was wondering if anyone had any solid information on putting in an aftermarket double din radio/gps in the 2003 S-Type?

From all the information I can find, it seems to be a real headache to replace anything in this model.

Thanks!

Your best bet is likely to study the multiple threads about this including those elsewhere - I seem to recall a separate section on this site about ICE.

yes you can do it. I got this pioneer unit, a kit and had to do a amp bypass since my vehicle included the alpine system

I installed a Clarion unit with NAV, including three amps, 10 speakers and a back-up camera. Put the tweeters for the front stage in the defroster vent trough. Took the better part of a weekend, two people working, but we encountered only one major hiccup: the reverse lights in a Jag are negative-signaled, meaning we had to install a switching relay. We even bought an adapter from Best Buy that allows the steering wheel controls to be used with the aftermarket radio.

I've taken apart 20-30 cars in my life to do radio work -- this is actually the easiest job I ever did.

Hey gabrielduenas, did you have the nav system in your car before? That's been my main concern with taking the aftermarket route since my climate controls are mostly through the touchscreen.

Angry Sorry to highjack thread

I couldn't figure out how to create a post for the life of me. I recently purchased a 2003 S Type R for a good deal with the nav unit, heater, and stereo not working. I pulled out the nav unit to find a bunch of cut wires electrical taped back together in different spots and a cut fiber optic cable ?!?!?!?!?!. I cannot find anywhere any info on swapping an aftermarket stereo into a car with factory nav and alpine system. I have the non nav climate controls and cut harnesses but not sure where to even start.
Thanks
Matt

Bottom of the forum page is a button "Post New Thread".

If you can, just fix the repair. The workshop manual (free download) has info with circuits and also on this site there are people who've retrofitted. Some of the info is on JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource too.

Failing that... perhaps the "vref" box may be suitable. (Someone post the info please!)

But generally, there are no aftermarket ones as the system uses a mix of audio, optical cabling and internal car computer networks.

Is there a way to repair a cut fiber optic cable? They cut it 4 inches short of the nav unit. Looking closer they cut the wires by the amp as well and ran two sets of rca's. It looks like they had another amplifier wired to the factory speakers because all the wires off the factory amp Look like they were cut then re attached. And behind the nav they also cut the harness wires, left some exposed and there is a few where it's 3 wires running to one and some power and ground wires exposed but connected?!?!? So no one has done a write up on putting an aftermarket stereo in a car with a factory nav car? Would like imagine it's a pain to replace the whole fiber optic harness let alone would cost a pretty penny. I appreciate the help.
thanks
matt
