Hi all,

Just picked up a beautiful 2014 F-Type V8S with all the options. Im not fully aware of the previous owner or condition, so I wanted to be proactive and swap all the fluids with Amsoil and have some questions.

I see they have the proper oil, but not filter, dealership only?

I see the service manual requires the brake fluid is changed well before 30,000 miles, I doubt that was done. Dealer only, and how much? best removal procedure?

I see no information on the front and rear differentials?

Am I missing anything? Anyone else recommend anything else? Im thinking maybe take to dealer for latest flashes and updates as well.

 

Firesand! Congrats. On the Lobster Run, I commented that Firesand is a color that everyone loves, but few buy. Post some pictures. I'll let others comment on the maintenance questions.

 

Welcome to the group!! You're right to be proactive.
- Change all the fluids, including the coolant. There are a lot of materials in today's engines that don't do well as the coolant ages.
- Oil with the STJLR.51.5122 spec isn't common, but you can find it outside of the dealer if you look around.
- I haven't looked around for a filter, but I'd be inclined to get it from the dealer. Be careful of alternatives.
- DOT4 ISO 4925 brake fluid should be readily available; I've even seen it on eBay.

 

For 2014 car I'd also recommend changing transmission fluid.

 

And brake flush, the new every 2 year service on performance cars.

 

Heaps of compatible oil filters, ranging from cheapies to OEM in price. The same filter is used across the whole JLR range of AJ126 V6 and AJ133 V8 engines.

I have used the WIX 57279 a few times now on both my XFR and F-Type with no problems.

 

I love it. Then again, all my cars are exotic colors.

Thanks! What would "all fluids" be? I have the coolant and oil info so far, as well as brake fluid. Probably be using the Wix. Will get brake fluid as well. Any idea how much?

I cannot find what fluid spec, nor how much, the procedure, or a filter anywhere. Checked google, this forum, and the owners manual.

Any idea how much and the best procedure?

Interesting, amsoil doesnt list that wix filter as being compatible with the 5.0L in the f type. I will try it.

 

The "recommended" trans fluid for the ZF 8 speed is ZF Lifeguard 8, but it's very expensive and there are cheaper alternatives, there are threads/posts around here about this, search is your friend.
I see you are an Amsoil fan, I believe Amsoil make a trans fluid which meets the ZF 8 speed specs, just don't ask me which one!

You don't have the carbon/ceramic brakes, so the fluid change interval is not as extreme. I tried to get an owner's manual online to check replacement interval but got irritated by the sites and gave up and don't feel like trundling out to car to dig in the glove box. Previous vehicles called for 30k miles on the brake fluid, but that's pretty long for such a powerful and heavy car. Can't hurt to go sooner.

For the front differential you're in great shape. There's nothing to do. Unless you actually find one. Then, you need to figure out why your 2014 has a front diff.

Brake fluid: every 3 years, regardless of mileage
Engine coolant: every 10 years or 160,000 miles

 

Thank you for this. Nothing on trans fluid, even though I do want to do it. I'll still do the coolant, as its cheap insurance, and I have a leak somewhere. It went low on my way back from NJ and I can smell coolant when I drive.

 

Nice car. I'd do the service noted in the manual, tranny fluid change can't hurt and obviously you need to deal with your coolant issue.

....BTW, a V8S doesn't have a front differential ;-)

i would take it to the nearest JLR dealer and have them run the VIN. check for recalls and any maintenance done...

A JLR dealer 90 miles away from me quoted me $260 to change the brake fluid. The dealer closest to me said they usually do it along with a servicing which is $475.

btw, I saw a Firesand in real life and its stunning!

 

ZF's recommendation seems to be 8 years/100,000km.

Re: your thread on the top leaking. You may also consider 'reproofing' the top - I do this every year, as the waterproofing fades. I use the 303 kit, but I use a brush to apply to protectant, rather than spraying it on.
